I just got my new MB, the 1st day i drove it, probably during the duration of 1-1.5hr, I started noticing a small humming/static sound coming from the head unit. but afterwards when i turned the ignition off and started the car again, the sound was gone.

I had some thoughts that since i was using the navi all of the 1.5hr, whether the sound was caused by it as the hard drive inside the hu was spinning, thus making the humming/static sound....?!?!

I didnt hear the sound again the next day I drove and not using the navi...

Continuous monitoring is in progress but any thoughts and anyone experiencing this?

Hi .. i have a new 2012 C180 with Navi and HDD. Never heard the humming sound you mentioned before.. maybe its cause my music is a little above average.

But when you do switch off the engine and stay in the car for the few extra minutes, you'd hear the cooling fan on the head unit for 20 - 15 secs and also the internal flaps of the air vents will move...

Low volume hum from COMAND unit is totally normal. I've heard it in many MB vehicles. It's just the cooling fan(s). Hard drive and DVD drive might also contribute.
