Exactly...

If you already knew the first time what caused the problem, why would you do it again?

Becasue I have a gut feeling that it would do no harm to the car. Why would I do it again? change the paint scheme. Thanks again you two for your useless comments. Much appreciated

if you could get them to read out the code for you, you'd have a better idea of the fault.
A simple CAN ODBII reader would suffice.. and if its not a major issue, it can even be reset by the reader..

A good website to start out. Just enter the code and the manufacturer.
Hope that helps.

future reference, when working on a part of your car that has sensors, (which im pretty sure the intake box does) disconnect the battery. Not saying this is what caused it, but It good to cover all bases.

did you have the ignition on at all when doing it? Removing the cover will throw a cell if your listening to music and doing stuff there, I was cleaning my tb with the radio on and when i moved the tb it pissed off the car and threw a cell, which I of course cleared.

Did you cover up where the intake goes into the tb? you may have gotten paint which would have stuck or, the car could have inhaled paint fumes or heavy dust?

Discount can read that cel. Usually a google search can tell you the reason by the code.

went to the dealership to talk to a tech, he said most likely it wasnt due to removing the intake box, but more so my hids. He said mercedes really hate them, and hes seen many catch on fire recently .... not much help and said that they would charge 150$ to find out the problem due to the fact that it was modified

It is I took it in to dealership they said it was seal perfectly. and a common problem is the seal lip being folded in. But this wasnt the case.

Does anyone know what I do after I use a ob2 scanner to find the code. If its nothing major how would i reset the engine light. Is it already a option for the scanner tool to reset the cel?

I've heard that the euro-obdII can reset the cel....but, in my limited experience with those lights, they extinguish themselves.

What codes do you have?

Many independents will check codes for free. Autozone uses one for domestics....don't bother.

Maybe you're gut feeling is wrong

I would agree that it sounds ridiculous that paint could have caused your issue but let's look at facts here vs gut feelings...

Fact - Painted air box once = check engine light. Fact - Painted air box twice = check engine light...

Got vehicle fixed the first time = free. Got a gut feeling = check engine light, again.

At this point, is a painted air box really worth the check engine light? I'm not saying it's the painting of the air box actually causing your issue, but maybe it's you? Maybe you're doing something wrong that we can't help you with because you think you're doing it right, so you feel no need to mention it.

I'm not trying to be an *** but it seems there is an easy and FREE solution to your problem but you don't want to go that route...

Did Rusnak mention to you what they had to fix the first time? Start there

or... buy your own scanner.. it's pretty cheap and a good investment, since we'd love to tinker with our cars.

It even read out A/f ratios and such real time..

first time was seal problem, Second time actually had nothing to do with the airbox. Turns out it was just some random code. I erased the code with my friends scanner went for a long drive nothing popped up.

Glad to hear it was unrelated. The two 'useless comments' were probably the best guesses in the entire thread though. Many contaminants can cause damage to the surface of the mass air flow sensor. It is conceivable that off-gassing from the paint could "**** off" the sensor. Please excuse my highly technical explanation. Some of the mods that you guys do leave me scratching my head, but then again I guess painting the engine cover can be a fun little customization if you enjoy it.

What was this code for? Good to find out incase it triggers again.
