Question 2008 C300 Starting Issues

Today when I went to start my C300 I turned the key, the engine cranked for a bit but did not start. I tried about 6 more times before it started. The car had been sitting for a couple of months without being started.

I drove to my first appointment….. about 15 minute drive. I came out after about an hour and the car started right up. Drove another 15 minutes to my next appointment ….. came out about an hour later, and I had to try about 6 times before the car started. There were no check engine lights and the car performed fine, once it started.

The battery is 7 years old and the vehicle is driven very infrequently. Could the battery be the issue??

That’s a common symptom of the crankshaft position sensor beginning to fail. A 7 year old battery can be tested and may need replacement but is unlikely to cause this.

Problem Solved - Easily

The problem was a simple one to fix ……. Replaced the battery and all is well!

When the battery has low amperage it basically triggers a sensor to not start.

Which sensor might that be?
