are they not as comfortable or quiet because they have less rubber between the road the wheel because they dont work in snow?

or are they a totallay different rubber?

do you know there is a noise/comfort issue for sure?

and if so, would you recommend DW for a So-Cal never drive in snow driver?

thanks again

Different rubber compound. Objective testing data available on another site shows the rating differences. I would absolutely recommend considering the DW for a SoCal driver who never sees snow, IF they did not say ride comfort and quiet were their highest priority, but were seeking performance.

ok... guess i am gonna go with the DWS even though i never drive in snow... extra comfort and noise reduction is worth it to me over less performance...

Don't be too worried....this is all relative...yes, less performance than a DW, but still among the best ultra high performance all season tires on the market!

One question for you guys. Could it be that the 10 lbs of weight I dropped by going with the rotary forged wheels help as much as the DWS tires?
No doubt some benefit there, but the 10lbs is compared to total original un-sprung weights. Estimates:

50 lbs tire + wheel
30 lbs disc + caliper
30 lbs lower spindle ***'y
110 lbs total

So 10% reduction in local unsprung wt, and ability to follow road roughness is based on sq-rt of this mass, dropping it down to a 5% change in rough road response capability.

Other good effects:

-> Softer tread stiffness, compound and small blocks
-> Full tread depth vs stiffer, near worn old tires

Negative effects (lesser net effect)

-> shorter sidewall height
-> stiffer sidewall construction ( W speed rating )

So the noted good effects overwhelm the bad effects

awesome thanks... one more question now that I am about to buy them...

Can I just buy the rears first and run the Rear DWS's with my OEM Contis on the front?

Or do I have to replace all 4 at once?

Still have about 30% left on my fronts....

Yes. You can run different tires front to back but keep the same tire side to side.

I would not. If you bought the same conti's as is on the front, then no problem, do it.

But, the design of DWS tires is so different that you may be flipping from understeer to oversteer, and vice-verse, as you see different road conditions. And, based on 30% life up front, you would be dealing with this for a long time.

When I bought my DWS for another car, I thought the price as not excessive.

Sell the fronts on Craigslist, etc, for a low price to move them and help someone that may have real money issues.

After reading all the responses i was sold on buying DWS over Pilot Sport Plus A/S, but unfortunately DWS don't come in 235/40/18.

That's interesting because I could swear I had four of them in the garage right now....

It may just be a size the place you checked with didn't carry but I can assure you they make 235/40 18s.

Anyone have a picture of the sidewall height of the DWS (255/35R18)? Trying to decide if these are aesthetically pleasing, as well.

2013 C-Class 350 Sedan
POTENZA RE760 SPORT XL

More tire info:

C350 Sport 18" AMG Rims, Advanced Handling Package.

OEM Continentals A/S tires were loud.
Replaced immediately with BP SO4PP
Tires slight improvement, but still noisey and the 255's on the back at times sounded like snow tires. 4,000 miles later I couldn't take it.

Changed to BP RE760 Sport- Finally...quieter and smoother- $2,000 dollars later. Also, on the SO4's I even dropped tire pressure to improve ride quality, but these RE760 Sports are at the recommended pressure and, give a better luxury/sport feeling I've been searching for...

Hope this Helps.

While at Firestone the tire specialist compared the two side by side and the feeling of the rubber was stickier and forgiving on the RE760 Sport. My search is over...

I agree with every reviewer +1 for DWS!
Had them in my Cadillac STS RWD which came with Grand Touring crappy tire, the DWS did so well in the Snowy highway that I swore by them for the next 2yrs I kept the car.

Will be buying DWS for my C300 now or prob the new Michelin AS-3 that just came out.
Wondering if I can fit 235/50-17 or 235/50-18 (if I decide to upgrade to 18's) ?
I had this same size in my Caddy and really like the balance of the size it provides.

I too was wondering about one size up in series for my C-class- can we do it? I noticed the E-Class has same 18" wheels but has the 50 series tire and probably would be a smoother ride and more options... just saying

Anyone tried these Continental PureContact with EcoPlus technology? Rated the highest on Tire rack for Ride and Noise comfort.
