Whining Brake Pads
My brake pads are whining awfully sometimes when the brake pedal is pressed in a certain way. The car is new - 1k miles... is this normal? Should I go to the dealer?
Also, one more question. Can I change the air filter myself (with a genuine one of course) and not lose my warranty? Is there a way for the dealer to know whether I have changed it or not?

Give it a few more miles and see if your brake noise goes away. If it doesn't, by all means bring it back to the dealer.
You can change your air filter and it will not affect your warranty. BTW, there are two engine air filters and one cabin air filter. Some forum members even change their own oil. Make sure you keep all receipts. Congrats on your new ride!

i just took mine in for the same problem..probably the calipers are too close to the plate so it causes squeaking/whining...its covered by ur warranty so make an apointment for a loaner vehicle and they should fix it for u.

Thanks for the info guys, I will be changing the filter myself. As to the oil - I think I will lose the warranty if I change the oil... generally I need to do the services at the dealership but for the air filter - they cannot know whether I have changed it or not.

If you're in the US, you can't have your warranty affected if you do work yourself. Just keep accurate receipts and records.
