DIY Blacking out your emblems
Ok, so I finally got off my *** and hosted these camera pics, sorry but I don't carry a regular camera around with me all the time and usually when I can work on the car is spur of the moment when I actually find spare time to do so.
So here we go:
Mask off the emblems the right way (more on this later)
Now mask off the rest of the car to prevent stray paint
Now I decided to use a scuff pad to just help with adhesiveness but depending on which paint you use then you might not need to as paints today have come a long way. Also, CLEAN the surface area regardless if you scuff the emblems or not.
Now to paint, light coats, don't worry if you don't get everything on a pass, you'll get it on the next pass. And make sure to let it DRY between coats.
Eventually you'll have covered the emblems completely (I did my trunk handle as well as the lower bumper chrome at the same time) Now walk away and give it at least an hour to set in more. You should in the end up with this
Now remember I stated mask the emblems the RIGHT way? I learned the hard way what that is. This is a pic of how NOT to do it. What I did here thinking was a good method was to lay the tape over the emblems and then cut it to shape.
I thought that this would create the most seal against the body to prevent unwanted spray. I was WRONG. What happened was that the paint stuck to tape so that when I peeled it off I ended up with this FML.
So there you have it, learn from my mistake and happy modding. Btw, I did it this way cuz I shopped around for quotes for wrapping including shipping material from one of our vendors, in the end the cost just didn't cut it for me. However, I think with the window trim I will have no choice but to wrap that's just too much to deal with.

It's a shame you can't get plasti-dip, that stuff is perfect for the job. I removed my Mercedes emblem and the chrome strip to paint them, you have to drop the trunk liner to do that. The letters though, I just masked a square around them, sprayed the plasti-dip and once it was dried peeled the plasti-dip, it worked perfect, it stayed on the letters but came off the paint. I imagine it took a long time to mask those letters though.
