Brake Fluid?

How's it going guys,

I'm due for service B soon, does anybody know how much brake fluid I need in order to flush and refill my brake system? 2011 6spd manual C300 (if it makes a difference)

Also any suggestions on what fluid to get, if it even matters? I know there's always claims from somebody that theirs is better for ___ but what is actually good or should I just get whatever the auto parts store has in stock. I've haven't been keeping up on this stuff anymore so I figured you guys would know if there was any new stuff that was worth a damn or more importantly if it will make my Benz angry

I buy 2 500 ml bottles & find that is enough for a good flush out.

MB states that we should use Dot 4 standard. Any trusted brand of that standard will do the job.

It makes it easier if you buy a fluid that is of a different colour to that which is in your car. You can then see at each wheel when the new fluid is coming through.

Always buy a fluid that has been recently manufactured ie 2 to 3 months old & not old stock. Brake fluid is hydroscopic.

Good suggestion, I didn't realize it came in different colors. I've only ever seen that yellowish stuff... time to scour the interwebz while I sit at the airport

Thanks

That might be worth the drive, to wherever you are. My dealer was dangerously close to $800.
For $150 I wouldn't waste my time, it's becoming increasingly more valuable these days.

From time to time my phone likes to make me look stupid I was referring to Amsoil brake fluid, it seems to have good reviews. I don't know what color it is though I'll see if anybody at home sells it locally

According to Mercedes I believe it's every two years or twenty thousand miles.

Make sure it comes up to DOT 4 standard or don't put it in.

It's based on time, not mileage. Every two years.

And you should not use fluid from an opened can since the fluid is hygroscopic (not hydroscopic) which means it pulls moisture from the air. Because if this, there is no point in saving a partial container.

I've used ATE Super Blue and ATE Gold for years. One is blue the other is gold so you know when the flush is done.

Good Find, do you think there's any chance I can find it in a local store?

Hi there,

Is it a DIY job or must be performed by dealer?

Thanks in advance.

I made up this set up then connected it up to my $100 Chinese workshop compressor. You have to be careful to regulate the pressure down to 15 to 20 psi.

Hi Carsy,

Thanks for the reply.

I recalled a thread on other forum mentioned that Star system is needed during the process. Is that true?

I have now flushed the brakes twice on my 2007 W204 & have not needed Star.

The main things are to use fresh Dot 4 fluid & not to allow air into the system .
