New Member Hello!
Hello everybody!
I just bought an 2008 White C300 4MATIC. Car is slower than I expected for its specs but the luxurious interior and comfort is absolutely amazing.
Anyway, I just wanted to say Hello and thanks for keeping the forum active for newbies like me!
I will be doing a rear view camera install once I get the FAKRA cable from Midcity, already got the camera with me. Wanted to get the VIM as well but it was way out of my budget, maybe when I get some extra cash later. Also, will get a Blackvue Dr400g for it.
I have a couple questions that I am still kind of pizzled if you guys got some spare time, please help me out thanks
1) Is there any Daytime running light for this car? The HIDS are always on for my car? Is this normal?
2) Is there any way to update COMAND firmware (not just the Maps) so I can get things like reverse camera guide lines etc?
3) My dad actually filled it up with 87 grade gas and I got a full 500+km the first tank of gas without knowing the high compression, but then the second tank I used the recommended 91 I only get 450km, huge difference. At 87, the car didn't knock but it did run very sluggish, so I will not use 87 on it. Just wanted to know what mileage you guys get per tank? Sports or Comfort mode?
Thanks guys

I don't know any of the answers to your questions but wanted to say "Welcome to the forums!"
As for the fuel, if your car "recommends" premium that means it can use cheaper and will adjust the timing which is why you wouldn't (or at least shouldn't) hear any pinging. But if it says "required" then by all means provide the octane that it's asking for.

Welcome to the forum.
1. Where are you from? I know that certain countries such as Canada require DRLs and since you're using "km" i'm assuming you're not from the US, but I don't want to be an *** for assuming. Did you select "Auto" for your headlight setting?
2. I only know of updates for Maps. The COMAND software probably require more tools/software which, I assume, are only available at the dealerships.
3. I wouldn't use any other fuel whether it is "recommended" or "required". You're going to wear your engine out quicker and as you mentioned, performance will suffer. There are plenty of threads about which setting will give you better fuel economy and its rather speculative. The facts are, Sports mode starts out in 1st gear and the gearbox shifts at a later RPM while Comfort mode starts out in 2nd gear and shifts early. Also throttle response is slower in comfort mode. You can say that early shifts and lower RPMs saves gas, but theres no way of knowing unless theres a controlled experiment. Maybe theres a reason that its called "Econ mode" in the newer C-class instead of "Comfort", implying that Comfort isn't meant to save gas?
Anyways, again, Welcome to the forum and happy modding.

wow thanks for the inputs guys really appreciate it!!!
I am from Canada, and my light is on "Auto", but it is always on the HIDs even in bright lighting, so I am just wondering if this is normal because usually there is a normal daytime running light and HIDS switches on when it's dim like BMWS
Yes I will definitely stick with 91, but just wondering if anyone noticed better gas mileage on 87. And also I wanted to know how many miles do you guys get per tank?

there is a setting in the setup that you can turn your DRL on or off. I have a 10 without the lighting package, but if I turn on the DRL setting it turns on a bulb in the headlights and will stay on the entire time I driving during the day, similar to lexus or bmw as you have said. I have this function turned off to save on the life time of my bulbs. You can access the setting thru the steering wheel controls.

thanks c300va!
I am in Canada, there isn't a setting to turn off DRL setting. Still trying to figure it out if it's me or everyone else. So basically after I bought this car, daytime/nighttime my HIDS are always on. Any fellow Canadians?

Hey there and welcome to the forum.
I joined not too long ago, and there is an answer here to just about any question you might have. Flip through the topics or search for something specific, and you will find a ton of information. Everybody seems eager to help.
FWIW, I use the lower, 87 gas, and I never had a problem at all. As a matter of fact, that is what the dealer used before delivering the car. Just my $.02
Again, welcome.

i pumped 89 once and saw 3mpg improvement. thought it was cus my car was finally broken in (at about 3.5k miles) but the next fill at 91 brought the mpg back down to about 23mpg overall lol

Again, same thing for me. I am from Canada as well.
It's a Canadian car, the DRL's are always on which happen to be the HID's. That's just how Benz made it for us Canadians I guess.
The only difference I've noticed is that when it gets dark and you have 'auto' on. The side marker lights also come on. Otherwise HID is always on, DRL or not.

Should be bi-xenons.
As for gas, I use mid-grade. I figured if it's fine for my brand new Range Rover Sport Autobiography, it'll be fine for this too. Have always used mid-grade in pretty much everything, from brand new X5's to RR's etc.
I haven't checked how many km's I get yet as I went through one tank only so far and that included highway driving. Sort of keeping an eye on it now, but I will be taking the highway again tomo so won't be able to get an accurate reading. Once I do a full tank with city driving, I'll report back.

Well if you mean by everyone as in Canadian vehicles then, yes DRLs apply to everyone. I just had no idea it was the low beams. I thought it was parking lights/fogs or a dimmed out Hi-beam but we learn something new everyday.
Unless there is an aftermarket HID kit in the car, it should be bi-xenon's.
