Road Noise

I'm getting a lot of road noise in the cabin form my current tires. Continental Tires 225/45 17 245/40 17
Smooth road, not bad. Course or rough road, wow are they noisey.
Big O tire recommended Michelin Primacy MXM4. Anyone familiar with these tires?
Searches here are all over the place with a lot of likes and dislikes.
Whats a Quite Tire?
Is there a Definitive answer?
Thanks

How many times did you rotate them (or miles between rotations), and how many miles on tires??

please click on User CP at the top left of page, just below the thread title. Then add the following to either Profile and/or Signature , selecting buttons on the left side of that page:

year, model, if it's a diesel, Sport or Lux, 4MATIC or RWD, Location (city & state), and non-US country if applicable.

This helps others respond to issues, like tires, spring options, part sales, etc. Thanx

It's critical to rotate side to side on staggerd wheels/tires. Not doing this creats feathering wear, which makes noise.

That's why it's best to stay away from directional tires with staggered set-up.

Actually, on the tirerack.com website, the Michelin MXV4 has a superior noise test result to the MXM4 in the Grand Touring All Season category, as performed on their test track. If you are also confident in customer survey data on their site, the Continental DWS rates equally as high for quietness, but is in a higher performance category (Ultra High Performance All Season). Many folks on this forum and on the W211 E Class forum have high praise for DWS for combining quiet and handling. If the performance aspect is less critical for you, check out that test data on MXV4.

The other issue is adding sound insulation. I had a thread on Damplifier Pro being added to the spare tire well, if you would search for that. The results were excellent.
