Good deal on C300?
I have a friend with a car lot that called me when he got this car in a few months ago. It's a 2008 C300 sport, 25k miles, and he quoted me personally $26200. Trying to get him down another $500. It's gray, automatic, black leather, ipod connect, xenons, and heated and dimmed mirrors. Not sure what packages are on it. It's been tough to find a good price with low miles. Should I jump on this or keep shopping? Any help is awesome!
And PS, all the other decent priced 300's have been leased or rentals. Trying to avoid that. Unless that isn't a bad thing!

It sounds like it has the p1 and p2 package. It isn't bad to have a leased car since the dealerships normally inspect it thoroughly and offer an extended warranty. Do you have the car fax report for it? Where are you located? Is this price OTD?

That's before taxes and dmv fees. I'm also trading in my current car, so that should save me some tax. I'm trying to get him down a little more because one of the rear tires isn't gonna last another 5k. Carfax is clean. It actually looks like it might've been a lease/rental. Looks and drives great though! I'm in Tampa, FL.

It might be overpriced by 2-4k. I think 26k-28k OTD should be a good price for a CPO with an extended warranty. You can try to negotiate if you really want the car, but I would look at dealerships because you don't want to get caught up in repairs, which are extremely expensive for Mercedes, and not be under warranty. Also, you are out of your mind paying for that if it was a rental car. Leased, it depends, but no to rentals.

It's a car lot, but he's actually pretty reputable. I have a few friends that have bought their MB or BMW from him, and they highly recommend him. Only thing that worries me is that it might've been a rental. When I pulled the carfax, it lists the car as "commercial." Not sure if this means leased or rental. I'll attach snapshots of the carfax. Also, not too worried about the lack of warranty left. I was prepared to pay for some kind of extended warranty anyways. These are definitely great points to bring up during negotiations though!

I think commercial means that it was purchased under the name of a company, not a private owner. It could've been listed under the company to get a tax deduction.
It is likely that it was financed since there is also a loan or lien. I don't understand the whole process of leasing, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a 40-month option for leasing, only 36 months.
It is also strange how they auctioned it off instead of selling it as a CPO if it was leased. Maybe the original owner wanted to purchase/finance it and ended up defaulting on his payments so the loan company reclaimed the vehicle? It was auctioned off twice from different dealers, which brought it to its current location.
My interpretation is up for debate. Thats just what I assume/understand. It really just makes you wonder what this car has been through.
