Recent MB Dealer Service and an unfixable engine Whine.

Just some info on some recent Warranty work. Addressed some noise issues. 1st visit I complained about a squeal at cold start up. Fixed with new belt tensioner and got a new belt out of it. Upon Further inspection found my extension plugs leaking oil. (Cam cover) it was replaced. Also complained about low power steering fluid and noise. Nothing
found.

2nd visit 2 weeks later. Complained about low fluid and PS noise again. Diagnosis Leaking PS Oil Tank and PS pump bearing both replaced.
Now for the unfixable part. Still complaing of whining noise at take off at low rpm. The explaination I got is it's a normal sound from benz. Huh?? It a low rpm engine noise. Annoying as hell IMO? Doing a courtesy trans fluid check for me.

All this service was done on a 08 C300 Sport 6spd man/trans 60,000 kilometers. Can anyone chime in on this "normal" engine noise. Hope this info helped somebody. MB Oakville In Ontaro Canada was the dealer.

Get a second opinion from another dealer or mechanic. If you don't mind driving to Ajax, have it checked by an indy at MB Master (Jordan) at 415 MacKenzie ave.

I am going to take it to another Dealer. Burlington MB is a Gold Star Dealer. Wanna take it to them. Just trying to get some opinions on the forum. I'm positive I'm not the only one with this issue. A friend of mine works for German Auto Parts in Rexdale. He said he thinks it's a release bearing. Hope I get more people to chime in.

These Stealerships kill me.

I have 30,000 miles on my 08 C300 Sport with a manual and don't have much of a whine. There is a tiny bit of gearbox noise, but that was present in my old transmission and the replacement transmission I got about 5,000 miles ago.
Of course, have it checked out since yours seems to be bad enough to bother you. Now that I am thinking about it, maybe I'm just getting old and deaf....

There's defiantly a whine noise in neutral and in gear 1st and most of second gear. And also can be heard when engine breaking (slowing down) at below 2500 rpm or so. Parts to the serpentine system have been replaced as mentioned in the OP. The noise I hear the SA can also hear. And was told it's quote... "normal" Lifter noise is more normal than this. It sounds PS related but after parts replaced I assume it's not the issue. BTW you had your man/trans replaced already on your c300 Yikess!

I have that exact noise you're discussing. I have a '08 C350. The noise sounds like the belt sheaves/pulley might be out of line causing the belt to make noise. It seems to make the noise on cold starts and after I've been driving a little hard. I took mine to MB of Buffalo and the put belt lube on and it seemed ok but then the noise is back. I'll let you know what they tell me when I take it in.

I think our noise issues might be different. At first I had a squeaking sound at start up. Had belt tensioner pulley replaced and new serp belt. The squeak went away but the whine stayed the same. I figure with a new belt the whine would quiet up at first than in time would have the issue your claiming. But it never did. PS was next to be fixed pump bearing replaced and oil tank. But never fixed issue. Either the dealer is bull****ing me on the PS work. Or a drivetrain problem that they don't wanna fix. Or something totally Different like another pulley. They are checking it today. Let's see whaat happens. And still post your dealer experience. Inquiring minds want to know. LoL!

hey DonjuanOriginal, i'm glad to find another user going to the same dealer. I own a GLK and has been quite unimpressed by the dealer's service. It's out of my way to get there but I thought it would be good to support an independant dealer. I've had problems after problems with my car and most of the time they thrug it off or make some stuff up. anyways. good luck with your fix.

Thanks for your input. I"m defiantly disappointed. When Oakville MB tells me a high pitched whine is normal with no real technical explaination why.

That's when u make an appointment at another Dealer. I hope Burlington will have answers. Will post update.

I have a sl 6.3 amg. Same issue. I hear a whining sound at low rpms. it is driving me crazy. Dealer said they hear it but it does not affect the performance of the car....it affect the performance of the driver though.

My Problem in the end was my Power Steering Pump. The previous owner of my w204 had the PS Fluid Res. leaking. Ran the pump dry. Oakville MB replaced the Fluid Res but not the pump said it was a normal noise.... Bull****. It was the pump in the end. At low rpm was the most noise made.

Hi,
I have the same noise at low rpm as you mentioned. How much did it cost to replace PS pump?

They replaced my belt and all was well.
Then there was a high pitch whine; it sounded like I had a supercharger. The sound was through all rpm range in gear and neutral. Turns out the bearing went bad on the alternator. I had that replaced and now everything is good

I had it done on warranty (private) not MB. also it might be your belt tensioner. which makes a high pitch sound. had that replaced also. my pump ran dry. if your levels are normal. it might be an alternator. But mine was a power steering issue. seems like the serp belt system has a few issues. Good Luck
