Introducing Mars 4Matic -- Build Thread

Hey everyone,

I have been posting on the forum for quite some time and figured I should start a thread for my 2008 C300 4Matic.
I traded my 2005 C230 for 2008 in December and started modifying it last month.

Here are a couple pictures to get everyone started. I understand it is not everyone's cup of tea and hope people will be respectful. I always try to be respectful of others ideas and cars.

I have a ton of pictures of the build to add as well. I debuted the car at Carlisle PA. Performance and Style a few weeks back and took home 5 trophies.

The black is a vinyl wrap but everyone swears it is paint.
I have 4 screens installed in the car.
Tons of others stuff done as well, I will list them at some point.

It does need a drop, I bought springs but decided to sell them and wait for coilovers. I am working on a couple of sponsors now for a set.

If it makes you happy, and you don't care what other people think, then I guess that's a good thing! Enjoy.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I do have plans to black out more of the chrome on the car. Hopefully I can get to it in June.

I will get some more pics of the screens up soon. The 4 screens are running off of the command setup. I am using a Midcity VIM and had to get a telematic update because the 2008 cars did not have the right software for rear seat entertainment.
It is so nice to have 6 DVDs installed and have all the screens showing the same movie without a separate DVD player.

2 in the visors and 2 in the headrests. The drivers side visor does NOT get turned on while driving. Only gets used at the shows!

Very nice!

Will coil overs be coming out for 4matic anytime soon?

Also, where did you get those "Mercedes-Benz" Caliper stickers that you put on after the respraying them?

You have to purchase a rear seat entertainment cable from Midcity as well. It converts one of the plugs on the back of the radio to an RCA jack. I split the RCA jack into two and ran wire to the trunk. I have a signal amplifier on the end of each of those cords that bumps the signal up so all of the screens work well. I currently have two screens plugged into each amplifier but I am working on adding a couple more screens in the trunk so that will change soon.

Once I had everything connected I was told my car was not compatible without the telematic update. It cost me $300 to have the update done but it was well worth it. The screens all work now and my backup camera has guide lines on it. This was not an option with the 2008 software, I am now running 2010 software.

sweet setup man...

hey, so you can have both the backup camera installed and the rear seat entertainment with the factory command?

I thought it was either one or the other with the video source on the factory head unit?

Can you explain how this works?

thanks dude, love ur ride

I don't believe you can do both the backup camera and aux-in together, it's one of the other.

And to OP, thanks for the info man. How much did the screens, update, and vim total cost you if you don't mind telling us

Thanks for the compliments!

It is possible to have both. Backup camera connects to the headunit with a fakra to RCA connector. The rear seat entertainment connected to my headunit with a black connector towards the middle of the head unit in the back. It has an RCA cable on the other end of the connector. Newer headunits use a different connector that Midcity makes as well.

It took a bit to get everything to work but anything is possible in these cars. The easy answer for most is that it can not be done though.

Correct on the aux-in and camera.

The update cost $300, they charged me for the time it was plugged into the machine, a little over 2.5 hours.

The VIM cost $750. That included the camera, rear seat cable and the unit itself.

Visor & Headrest screens were free. I was able to pick up a sponsor with my last Benz and they were more than happy to jump to this one and provide new ones. You are looking at about $300 for the visors and $400 for the headrests though.

I need to get the rest of my pictures up, hopefully I can get them done tonight.

More Pictures

Here are some more pictures.

The exhaust tips were purchased off Ebay and took a ton of work so they would fit.

Let me know if anyone has more questions.

I just ordered a set of Morello edition fenders, a C63 replica front bumper and the carbon fiber lip for it.
I am trying to get my hands on a set of the new black headlights as well.

I will also be blacking out the trim around the window and along the bottom of the doors.

I will post pics once everything is installed.
