"Check left tail light" warning

Wife got a "check left tail light" warning the other day. There would be nothing unusual about it except for the fact that it was actually the RIGHT tail light that was out.

When I think of right side, it's the side to the right of the driver. Does MB not think this way? Or is it yet another one of many gremlins on this car, kind of like the one that causes the left blinkers to come on when I try to signal right.

I had this problem about six months ago. Also, my turn signals would flash very quickly. I took the car to the dealer and they verified that the circuit board was bad, so they replaced both boards and no problems since.

Mine was under warranty so I don't know how much it would have cost to fix.
