Service B
 

So I looked at my instrument cluster today and it shows me next service B in 5000 km's. And considering the amount of driving I do I will be covering that pretty soon.

Just a general question for those of you who have gotten this done. What can I expect? What exactly is done in this? What are the costs/expenses involved? Just make an appointment with a dealership, tell them service B is due and bring it in or what?

I got it done recently. It cost me $350 and a day at the dealership. Its nothing but a glorified oil change with most of the cost going towards labor.

Yep. Nearly everything is "inspect / check". So they make it seem like they're doing a lot but most of it is just looking at something....which can be done at home.

350 for a service B Aerove? that's cheap! the ones in MD charges 550-600 bucks for a service B, and 300 for a service A... So i said f*ck them and did it myself, Changed oil and replaced OEM air filters and cabin air filters, cost around 100 bucks. or go to a mechanic to change ur oil, and then take the service B sign off urself =)

have only done about 5k miles on a 2010 so we were able to get the service advisor to do service A's both maintenance times... essentially an oil change and filter, with a coupon for $130-ish. You can probably find coupons for cheaper too, but it depends on timing.

If service B is also an oil change (I thought they do something with brake fluid too but I guess not), why do people just keep going back to MB at their prices? Is it a warranty thing? Meaning if it's not on record that it was done and something fails, they don't cover any part of your vehicle? That thread indicates not true, but that was a while ago.

Not in USA, but I believe some countries require MB to do work.

Service B has the Brake Fluid flush as well as the oil change. I just got mine done. Just the oil change and brake flush. I did the rest. I will be going to the Indy shop from now on though.

That might be what your dealership did, but from what I've heard from calls is that's not part of Service B. So OP might want to verify first.

I guess the best way would be to call the MB dealership and ask them what are all the things they would be doing for Service B?

If it's just an oil change pretty much then I rather get it done from some regular shop and figure out how to get rid of the sign on the instrument cluster. As someone mentioned it can be done at home by yourself?

I am sure the shop that changes oil would most likely do the brake fluid flush as well if needed. Seems like that would deff be a cheaper route to take.

I agree! I was just due for my Service B and called around, no dealer included the break flush, was always pitched as "well since you are due for a Service B, would you be interested for a break system flush as recommended by Mercedes for only $99 more?"

Needless to say after i researched a bit and looked at the checklist that they use, i went to MotorWerks in Commerce for an Oil Change lol. The rest i can do myself. Saved a ton of monies!

I did the brake fluid flush since I was pushing 30k. Can't be too careful.

The brake fluid flush is not included.

However, lol, a lot of service advisers will WORD it as if this a la carte item were part of Service B and have you believe a service B costs like $400-$500.

You'd be surprised how many people just go, oh okay.

Sounds like I should just get an oil change and then reset the meter?

How can I reset the meter then? I can take it to the dealership once the Service C or the next oil change is due for an overall check up? How does that sound? I do fair bit of driving. The car just clocked 41K km's. I purchased with around 32K or so in the end of March.

Get the official Mercedes instructions from http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/doclist.jsp This will give you access to the reset procedure.

but Question.... do you guys think it's necessary for a brake fluid flush at 20k? (service b)?? I think it's ridiculous ... they are just adding all these unnecessary things to the "SERVICE" so they can justify the price...

So I am still debating about whether or not I should do this. Or just get the oil changed and follow that youtube video to reset the meter.

Rest of it all seems like inspections like wiper and what not. Is that all necessary. I really don't feel like getting ripped off by paying $400 or so for nothing.

So just called my local Benz dealer and asked them the cost for just changing the oil and it is around $250.

Asked them if I were to follow the maintenance schedule and get the service B done, I got quoted $750-$790! HOLY FAWK!
