Aftermarket OEM type Air Filter

I have a 2011 C which has 26k miles.
I called two dealers in my area today and the price for a set of air filters is between $61 - $71.

Tomorrow I plan on going to Autozone or PepBoys to see what filters they carry and for how much. If their prices are significantly lower and the quality seems OK, then I might buy it from there.

Has anyone had experience with aftermarket air filters (besides K&N - I'm not getting that) which are available in regular parts stores? I recall Pep Boys carrying Purolator and maybe one more brand. I have a feeling that the cost for both might come close to $50, which would make me consider getting it from dealer instead who is selling it for $61. Either way it is a rip off for something that just has nothing but folded paper and some rubber.

Thanks.

I ordered FRAM off of ebay and paid $30 for the set shipped. Amazon also lists the Mann filters (the make the OEM for Mercedes) for good prices.
I had my filters in 3 days.

K&N are GREAT filters- I have used them on ALL of my previous vehicles. The only reason I have NOT used them on the Mercedes is the reports of damage to the MAF sensor due to the oil being sucked into the throttle body. I've been told if you don't over-oil the filter- you SHOULD be fine, but no guarantee. I have been looking for a high-performance dry filter since 2007 and besides BMC filters costing over $100 a set- there are no options.

One can't check the pressure drop of an air filter by looking at it. If you just putt around, all the dry filters are fine. For some assurance of max hp, go oem or perhaps Mann. I think Glyn answered this ... search.

For a tracked car, I measured the pressure drop across the oem filter on the road with a Dwyer 4" water column differential pressure gauge, and there was none. So no K&N drop-in in that case.

MANN was what I was leaning towards, but it is only available online. May end up going this route if there are no quality filters that the local part stores carry.

Thanks.
