Any Idea how top pop this thing off?
Without breaking it, of course ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

[The arrow Points towards the front and the letters are just for reference if you have an idea on which end to pull down to get it to come off]
The What: Yes, that is the sun visor clip and yes, it has 12v supply to power the visor lighted mirror.
The Why: Clearly, to be able to tap into the power source and still keep everything aesthetically pleasant, it appears as if that frame that goes around the actual J-type hook/clip must be removed first.
Question is, has anyone removed it before and if so how? Which direction are you pulling? Obviously downward But from which end?
Any assistance or direction will, as always, be greatly appreciated.
More on the Why: I plan on tapping into that as a power source for an Escort 9500ix which I've had for over a year now. I already have been cited once while this thing sat in the passenger seat instead of up on the windshield and have had several other close calls just for being too lazy to reach over and stick it on. I'd like to permanently install it but didn't want to run down the A-Pillar simply not to interfere with that particular airbag but also because I might break the cover as I am removing it! This is much smaller and likely much cheaper to replace if need be! But its also closer and much less of a hassle.
Hope y'all are happy and safe this holiday, and always!

Cool, still appreciate your contribution ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Actually, it is not switched by the ignition. But it does switch off after you remove the key, exit the vehicle and arm the alarm. I figure unless its going off for the few minutes before it shuts down, current draw (for the display) is minimal. Plus the Escort has a built in circuit that forces it to power down if it senses the battery voltage below a certain level.
The alternative as I see it, is to drop the entire console where the center rear view mirror is, but have you seen the back of that thing I couldn't make heads or tails out of it and those lights are also un-switched by the ignition; they too would run the same timing as the visor mirror light!
Thanks...![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Anybody else with any suggestions?

The homelink power is on a switched circuit so you may want to take a look at tapping it.
