hello all. this is my first thread, and i hope to have a decent discussion about this topic. Anyways, i just purchased my first mb 3 weeks ago. mostly for the wife since i work from home. I live in the city, so all we have is street parking. I have already been mocked by my neighbors and some family members for being "stupid" and buying a benz to park in the street. I'm sorry I don't have a fancy garage, but living in the city is way more practical for me than living in the suburbs just to get a garage.
so my question is... how many of you street park vs garage? was i being impractical for buying a car that I thought looked nice, comfortable and luxurious just to park it on the street?
thanks! also, i'm so glad i found this place. I have already researched and bought some things for the c300. azn optics lighting were my first purchase.

Part of the reason you may be getting those comments is that those people have a limited understanding of automobiles, and presume your purchase is about style and status. In their world, a ding or scratch takes away the only real meaning the car may have for them. Whether the car is parked in a garage or on the street, it still provides excellent overall performance (powertrain and chassis), great comfort, and outstanding safety. If you "feed" their superficiality that looks are primary, their argument just strengthens with each door ding. In reality, those dings do nothing to reduce the true quality and fundamental aspects of what a Mercedes delivers. Your purchase was not impractical at all, and as you enjoy the driving experience, the comfort the highly engineered interior delivers, and if it one days saves your life in a city-locale crash, their words will mean even less.
BTW, where we live, on-street parking is not permitted as we are expected to be in our driveways or garages....yeah, surburbia. Congratulations, welcome, good choice, and best wishes for years and miles of safe and happy driving!
I 100% agree with Sportstick, many people I know have given me all kinds of hell for buying an MB. Once I drove one though, it had nothing to do with status or wanting people to think I was more well off than I really am. I wanted the absolute best and this car is it.
