Cabin Noises from C-Pillar Area in 2012 C350
Hi Guys
I need help understanding what is in or near the 2012 W204 C pillar that could possibly make rattling and clicking noises?
HISTORY: I have just traded a 2010 C300 Sport in on a 2012 C350 Sport. As we all know, the 2010 model line was a smorgasbord of rattles, creaks, pops, clicks and ticks. I am happy to report that the 2012 facelift has been (in my case) VASTLY improved. Not all is perfect, however, with the dastardly umbrella shelf still providing occasional snaps and crackles as it expands and contracts with temperature.
The other delight that has made it through into the facelift is the rattling/clicking in the C-pillar opposite the driver side. This problem was present in the 2010 car, and is back in the 2012 one as well. I have driven a few non-Sport models and these problems don't exist there - it's obviously due to the highly strung suspension, and the noises are at their worst with no-one in the back when the suspension is completely undamped by weight.
I have tried many things to sort the C-pillar noises out (in the 2010 and 2012 model), with no luck yet. So I was wondering if anyone has taken this part of the car apart yet to help me understand what is in this area of the car that could be causing these noises?
The noises occur over medium to severe road surface irregularities, bumps, and sometimes with lateral movements of the car, too.
So far I have tried the following in teh 2012 car:
- Lubricated all door rubbers and seals
- Insulated seatbelt clasps and components
- Tried folding rear armrest in up and down position
The car doesn't have a folding rear seat.
Any help would be appreciated.

C250 CGI Sport 2011 Facelift
Hi.
I have the same noise from the left rear area of my C250. Drove me nuts. At first i thought it was the door latch. I prodded this and the noise went away. I had the car booked at the dealer this morning to have a look at the problem. I went on a test drive and there was no noise what so ever. Anyway they looked at the door etc and applied felt to it. On the test drive the driver went over a guttering on the road and heard the noise from the c pillar.
Now they have ordered the parts from Germany and will book me back in to have the c pillar parts replaced. At the moment the car rattles like mad from that area. Hope yours gets sorted.
