Have any of your TPMS batteries gone dead?

I am going to be replacing some rear tires soon.

The dealer alerted me that as the car will soon be five years old, I might want to replace the TPMS when I get the tires replaced. They stated that the batteries will not last much longer than this.

Have any of you had the batteries go dead in your W204's TPMS yet?

I'm wondering if I should have this done or not? This sure is a downfall of the sensors. The cost is about the cost of a tire per wheel.

Thanks for any experience/advice!

I think one of mine may be dead. I keep getting a check tire pressure warning. All tires are at the correct PSI but yet i get the waring ever time I start the car.

I recently heard the same thing about the 5 year life span of the batteries. :Sigh: Just another reason why I hate these TPMS sensors.

No need to buy the sensors at the dealership. I believe this will work on the w204: http://oewheelsllc.com/TPMS-Sensors_...nz-TPMS-sensor (Please verify before buying!)

The only thing with the cheap sensors is that the dealer probably won't install them.

I have a tire shop where I can haul one wheel at a time there, but that is so much work and their balancing machine isn't as good (I don't let a small tire shop take the car, it's scary enough at the dealer that has proper lifts and whatnot).

It's probably good news that more people haven't replied to this thread though. If they always go out at five years, more would have likely complained by now. Let's hope they can go 8+. ha-ha! (Hope I'm not wishful thinking). I don't know if how often you use the car makes the batteries life change. Example, if the car isn't used too often, are the batteries then not being used up, or are the sensors always on? Not sure.

I've also wondered if the sensors "turn off" when the wheels are dormant (i.e. in storage for summer/winter). FWIW, one MB parts guy claims the sensors should outlive the tires (+7 years...), but who knows.

Well, considering I need new tires every 10,000 miles, I hope. The worry comes at this 5 year or so mark when you're buying new times, do you take the added expense now or wait for them to go bad?

I appreciate that information ! If at least some people are saying approximately 7 years, I think I will risk it for now. Thanks for sharing that.
