$4-5000 easily for starters if you need new body panels. It's really hard to say without pics

Cost you? Do you mean the car isn't insured?

+1 I thought some if not all U.S. states have car insurance as a mandatory requirement when leasing?

States (some) require liability insurance. It's the car's owner (the leasing company) that requires physical damage insurance.

The leasing company is going to go nuts because you have violated the contract by driving without insurance.

I can go no further because the list nanny will chastise me.

All you need to know about gap waiver is that it won't help you in this situation.

Speaking of driving without insurance, just yesterday here the big TV news coverage was about a 19 year old unlicensed kid from China driving his just-bought black 2008 C350 (with big aftermarket wheels) at 70mph in a residential area where he ignored a stop sign and broadsided a BMW sedan with four passengers. Two of them are now on life support with critical head injuries and it sounds like they won't survive.

Although he has a Chinese driver's license he doesn't even have an International Driver's License and has no US license at all.

His parents have already arrived from China and since he is a flight risk, he is in jail with a $2,000,000 bail bond.

It was reported that he showed no remorse and was only interested in getting out on bail.

Hope it all works out for you man, at least its something that you'll be able to learn from and hopefully others will benefit from the story to avoid driving between insurance.

I've always dreaded hitting a deer though. I spend a lot a time in western Virginia and North Carolina and see deer a lot.

Good luck getting through it all.

I have always found it is VERY hard to drop your insurance. When I switched providers a few years back, I had to call 10x+ for the original company to stop billing me and accept it was cancelled. They required proof of insurance from new company as well before they would cancel it.

Unless you had late payments or something, are you sure your original insurance wasn't still valid?

Good luck with everything!!! There could always be worse things in life. The car doesn't sound too too bad. Try to stay positive and work through it!

Another round of ICE
Right now, your problems can be solved just with money for the cost of the car. If you get caught in insurance fraud, your problems will multiply several times and won't be so easily undone. If ethics alone are not enough, just consider the practical outcome because the insurance companies have entire departments just to deal with people who do what you were contemplating, and they've seen it all before.

Not only that, but depending on state laws - you can be racking up fines as we speak for having an uninsured but registered car. In Maryland charges can start within 24 hours of dropping insurance.

Echoing what others said.

I would double check when the insurance technically terminated. If you asked for it to be terminated the day of, you might still be insured as of end of that day.

Make sure there is a police report or something that indicates the accident date in case you can still file a claim.

I think the last thing the OP needs is a police report

Provided he has insurance through the end of the day. If he does not, police report is definitely not the best thing. If he does, he'll need it to prove the accident happen while he was insured.

Try and ask your insurance company to pay for damages when your policy is cancelled..
