We've moved on from lights, but I guess my role on this thread is to be the contrarian! A bit north here in Michigan, I've done very well for four winters with rear wheel drive. I change to Blizzak WS tires for the winter and have gotten through the same conditions quite well as my wife's E350 4MATIC (also on Blizzak for the winter). She can start from a stop a bit more easily, but that's about the only difference. Spinning two winter tires is better than spinning 4 all seasons. It's all about the traction at the contact patch.

Meanwhile, I'm not carrying around the extra weight over the front axle all year along with its increased understeer tendency, poorer steering feel, and parasitic fuel economy/performance losses.
