A or B service?

We have the car at 45k and is still in warranty till may 2013 so we have booked into a mb dealers for it's last in warranty service. That way if they do find anything during the service we are still in warranty and should get it fixed for free.

But when speaking to the lady she said is it a A or B service and I do not know how to find out? I need to as there is a big cost difference so how do I find out if I need an A or B service?

If its under warranty, they will fix it. Since its a dealership they will always find a place on your car that cost you money. As for A or B look at your dash it will tell you when is the next service due

Thanks for the reply

This will sound silly but if the car is within warranty are the services free or do you pay for them? I ask only because I am sure I saw something which said as long as the car is under warranty services are included, but then again it might have been a beer goggle night and I missread

as to the difference between A & B I read the forums and know it's basically a lot more checks and a couple of extra hundred dollars but our budget allowed for at least one dealer service.

You pay for them. A is around $300, B is around $1100-1200.

I did wonder if you paid or not

We were given A as $225 plus tax and B as $415 plus tax. Obviously they may find stuff that isn't warranty but wear and tear so I am allowing for other items should they find them.

Because the warranty is up in 5k and we have to drive 6 hours to the dealer then I would rather have a big find it all with as much covered by warranty as possible service

I'm approaching my service B, which they quoted me at $870. You have to pay, I wish warranty paid for it, then I wouldn't have to worry about racking mileage and having my service come sooner lol

after a message from another member I was able to use the settings buttons on the steering wheel to see when my next service was due and what type. Thankfully my next service is an A one

That's the same price I'm paying. And third party place is half of that

If you follow the 10,000 mile recommended service intervals it will be

a = 10
b = 20
a = 30
b = 40
a = 50 and so on

Service B is a glorified oil change. Look up "Mercedes Benz Service B" on YouTube, there's a guy who is servicing his W220 but the idea is pretty much the same. Service A and B can easily be done at home for much cheaper than what the dealership is quoting and even if you're under warranty you can do it yourself. This is one of those things where MB really hoses it's customers.

Sure glad I have a service contract for 3 years free maintenance, the dealer threw it in to sweeten my 36 mo. lease

Untrue. The B service has very important items listed for maintenance. Take a look at your service manual .

You don't need to have an actual manual. you can google mercedes owners manual and it'll bring you to MBUSA web site where you can download a pdf manual.

Here's the actual link http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servic...owners_manuals

You can put in the year and model.

My guess is you paid for that 3 year maintenance plan. I'm sure the stealer snuck it in there somewhere. After seeing what an A and B service really are, and reading what the dealer charges for them, I don't see why anyone pays the dealer to do them. They are so simple, I feel bad if you are honestly incapable if doing it yourself and saving hundreds.

I can visually inspect my brakes to see if there is glazing or scoring on the rotor and check to see if there is enough material left on the pads. I can test the battery with a Voltmeter, change the engine air and cabin filters, test the coolant with a hydrometer or coolant testing strip, change oil and filter and inspect the fluids. Only thing is that I would get an indy mechanic to change the brake fluid because it's a PITA and get a tire shop to rotate my tires when I swap over from winter to summer and vice versa. So many things can be done to these cars so easily by yourself there is no need to go to a stealership and shell out all that money for them to half a$$ it on your car.

Service Booklet. Additional work During each B service.

A few you did not mention.

ATM change oil & filter, clean & Grease Sunroof, Replace Fuel Filters, Replace Spark Plugs .Replace Coolant @ 250,000 km /15 years, check chassis for damage, check tow hitch. Diff oil change ( not in service book).

Can't argue with your statement about the ease of servicing & saving money. But can argue that the B service is a "glorified oil change"

I have serviced my car from new including during warranty period.
