Test Drove new C250 Luxury
As some of you know, I am researching new W204. I am leaning towards RWD to keep the potential for 4MATIC issues out of my future.
The C250 I drove was quite surprising. The Luxury trim really does make a difference. Not harsh at all. Far from sloppy, still very German, but it soaked up bumps and road imperfections as you would expect an E class to do.
I was also complete surprised by the little 1.8T. It was smooth, and for me, plently powerful. Especially passing power. Like in my old SAABs, this engine seems tuned for passing. I noticed a significant different between Economy and Sport on the transmission as well.
Questions:
Salesguy couldn't confirm - this engine has a timing chain or timing belt?
Is this 1.8T with DI a "new" engine, or just new to U.S.? I have read complaints about engine rattles and noise in the C250 in the U.S. I heard almost NOTHING and I had the radio and HVAC off. The car was really solid.
Other than HP and Torque, is the 1.8T really much different than the BMW 2.0T or the Audi 2.0T? All are inline fours, all have turbos, and all have DI. How different could they be????

I also noticed that the temp gauge was over the half way mark. Most MFGRs these days use dummy gauges that sit at half way to make people feel better. Does MB water temp gauge actually really work?

My temp gauge is usually at around 80 degrees Celcius, which I believe is around the middle. I haven't had any problems so far and I assume that's normal.
