Need Advice: 2013 C300 4matic 225/50R17 tires work?

Hello everyone! I have just joined this community, and I hope to be a long standing member! I have recently switch over from the dark side (Audi), and need some advice.

I just purchased a 2013 C300 4matic, and I asked the dealership to install my old winter wheel/tire set (225/50R17). They pretty much said if I installed them, the dashboard will light up like a Christmas tree, and it might ruin the 4matic.

I was very skeptical, considering the C300 has 225/45R17. I understand the speedometer might read "low" if I install the 225/50R17.

However, will it actually damage the car? Am I being jerked around here?

Thanks guys.

Yes, they are jerking you around...well somewhat. If you don't install TPMS in the winter wheels you will get the warning for the sensors not being there but as far as ruining the AWD, NO. Tire size doesn't matter unless you get more than 3% difference between front and rear which will stress the differential and cause premature failure of the AWD. If you keep all the tires the same size going from a 45 series to a 50 will not hurt a thing.

They also said that if I install them, it might void the warranty. Is that true?

This was coming from the sales agent. I can't tell if the service department was lazy, or just wanted to sell me a set of AMG rims and their ****ty tires...

No, that is not true. I can't believe they would even say that to you! When I bought my C my salesman said that many of their customers run winter wheels and they would store the customers summer wheels at the dealership FOR FREE and not charge them for installing either set! Maybe it's just a bad MB dealership or maybe I have a really great one but either way they are wrong.

This salesman was likely flogging Hyundai Sonatas last month and you should have no further dealings with him since he is just plain lying to you.
