C350 conversion to AWD?

So, I'm here sitting wondering why MB didn't offer the C350 in 4matic in the US but it did in Canada. I think I read that the trans in all the C300 and C350s is the same 7 speed trans, so I'm guessing it's just an additional front diff, half shafts and possibly shocks/struts between the C300 4matic and c350.
But has anyone compared a US model C350 with a canadian C350 4matic? I searched for a thread, but didn't come up with anything valuable. Anyone have any information on it? Or maybe an online catalog I can look at both US parts and Canadian parts? I know anything's possible with a lot of money, but I'm just curious how much different the two cars are.

The more I look at different models, the more I'm seeing a lot interchangeable parts and that makes me happy. I still own two MK2 golfs and parts between older VW models were always like legos, so this is making me optimistic about finding parts easier than the dealer.

I think it's easier if you just come to Canada and buy one...

I see your from Michigan. My friend is currently in the process of purchasing a vehicle from Montreal, CA. He has sorted out all the paperwork to transfer to U.S., and everything said and done, the fees are quite reasonable and not too much of a headache. Fee's are under $1k. Like the poster above said, it would be easier to buy one from Canada.

The transfer case is integrated into the transmission. So you would need a new transmission as well!

The front suspension is completely different, to make room for the front axles.

Someone said the torque rating for the C350 is higher vs 3.0L, as I recall. If not, one option would be to drop a 3.5L in the 3.0 4MATIC. That would include ecu & high pressure DI system.

But buying a Canadian car is the best option, if possible.

Usually US has more selections but not having a 350 4MATIC is weird. I think you guys down there don't have the 350 4matic coupe as well.

If importing the car do you have to replace the dash display as the numbers are in kilometers not miles or the digital read out will do just fine?

I guess us up north still has something worth bragging about to our buddies down south lol.

We do have the 350 4matic coupe in the US (I just got mine a few weeks ago ), that's strange that you can't get 4matic on the sedan version..

I'm talking about the Pre-facelift models. I don't know what their deal is with the 4matic c350 sedan. I think they're afraid it will take sales away from the E class or something. That's the only reason I can see.

Torque rating is the same, per Acapulco_Bill:

"- actually there are several variations of the 7G, all lame and slow. The one you mentioned for use in the 500 or 550 series Mercedes (S, E, CSL etc) have a capacity for up to 700 NM. The plebian POS 7G for the C250 C300 C350 and SLK350 etc is good for up to only 400 NM of torque."
