you should have taken it to the dealer before it peeled as they might say you scratched it with something like a ring or key but if the car is still under warranty it should be covered. that will be a expensive warranty repair as they will have to replace the steering wheel.
My W204 C220CDI 2009 steering buttons peeling not a great look these are suppose to be quality built cars. The is only about 5 years old, I rang MB customer service only to be told I quote
(We understand Mercedes-Benz have reviewed the concern and confirmed that the button peeling may be caused by an outside influence and as such we are unable to accede to your request to cover it under warranty)
I never ask to be covered under warranty, I was pointing out it's a manufacture defect and should be fixed at no cost, the quote to have it fixed originally $1050.98 and because I complained they have reconsidered now $678.49
So I sourced the parts my self I can get them landed here from the (US) to (Australia) for $250.00
I don't even particularly like Mercedes, I just love looking at all cars and I've definitely noticed that Mercedes seems to have an exceptional problem with their buttons peeling, which seems pretty pathetic for a "luxury" manufacturer. I've never noticed other makes with this particular issue

Doubtful. Do a Google image search for "peeling plastic car buttons" and you'll see. That said, it would be nice if all brands could figure out non-peeling buttons in 2024.
My 13yr old car only has 2 tiny chips on the edge and easily hide them with black marker. How frequently and gently you touch the buttons contribute to that peel.
