Dashboard air vent

Damnit, someone broke my dashboard air vent! Is there a way to replace it without having to replace the whole damn dashboard, which is what the dealership is telling me I have to do?

Who is that someone? You didn't know who used your car? You can't just cover that up as it is a sensor. Try using a rigid wire mesh and fabricate one from it. Trim those left-overs with a dremel tool and exactly fit that wire mesh in and paint it flat black. It might sound easy but it is not. good luck.

I was wondering about the "someone" as well.
Like shotgun_banjo says, you could use some fine wire mesh and form a little cup around a cylindrical object (wooden dowel, thumb, etc) and then just friction fit that into the hole. It may take some trial and error to get it clean looking and the correct size to allow it to stay in place, but that is likely a better option than replacing a perfectly good dash.
Of course you then have to keep "someone" out of your car as they may just start poking at it again....
