Air Intake Question

I am really just curious to know if there is a way to make the openings for intake to be bigger? This could be a stupid question but i am just curious if someone has done this or what?

There is really no point in you modifying the intake. In its stock form it is highly efficient and effective at what it does. If anything, see if you can find high-flow air filters.

What air filters would you recommend?

BMC Filters. More expensive, but it's what Mercedes DTM race cars uses. K&N have had reports of oiled MAF sensors. There's some baffling in the airbox that some have dremmeled out as well to help improve airflow.

I think BMC filters are just as likely to have that issue being that both brands are oil based filters. Might just come down to simple user error where the owner put too much oil on the K&N.

As for the OP's question, I'm not sure what you mean by making the opening bigger, and specifically which part. Beneliezer pretty much nailed it when he said that the oem system is well engineered. If anything I would just replace with high flow drop in filters and maybe apply heatshield tape to your intake tract.

Even if you make those larger they would still be bottlenecked at the manifold.

How much flow are is there, compared to the flow area of the MAF sensor? I bet it's near twice the aea. Anyone know what the inside diameter of the MAF sensor is, or the TB ?

That's what you do to check for intake restrictions: the TB should be the smallest flow area of any upstream potential restriction.
