2012 C250 rear seat center cup holder stuck open

2012 C250 rear seat center cup holder stuck open
I just bought a CPO 2012 C250 today.
When I got home my daughter jumped in the back seat and proceeded to:
I looked in the owners manual and it mentions that the hinged lid must remain open
before the cup holder can be closed and then close the lid.
I tried forcing the lid open again, but dont want to try too hard and break anything.
I hate to have to return to dealer to have this fixed.
Anyone experience this bizarre order of events before? And, were you able to fix it yourself?

- pull down the center armrest
- open the hinged lid (over the cupholder)
- flip open the hinged cupholder
- leaving the cupholder open, she then closed the armrest hinged lid
- now the cupholder is out and the hinged lid is stuck closed

i would let the dealer do it .... if they are cool like that ... i know mine was ... took mine back after a month to fix the scrap at the bottom of the molding ... they took it off .. patched and painted and no charge ....
