From time to time, folks comment on what they think was the outcome of the brief period Daimler-Chrysler existed. Here's one take on what happened from Peter Brown, the about-to-retire publisher of the industry "bible", Automotive News. This was in this week's edition:
Worst visionary
Juergen Schrempp, architect of DaimlerChrysler. That insincere "merger of equals" turned a wildly profitable Chrysler Corp. into a second-class outpost of a German maker of luxury cars. Schrempp destroyed scores of billions of dollars of shareholder value and put Chrysler on a path toward death. He had no discernible interest in how to make the combine work. It was all global vision and no execution.
