How to remove the speed limiter?
What’s the cheapest way to remove the speed limiter? I would rather not buy a 500.00 tune. Any ideas? And does anyone know the top speed? I was guessing 150+-.

I have no idea, but the limiter is usually matched to the tires. So if you plan to fly low across the open plains of Texas, check your tires speed rating first.

I can do this with Star Diagnostic Developer Mode but would feel terrible if you killed yourself going to fast so I think I would have to pass lol. Anyways been gone from the forums for quite some time so gotta update the profile and start meeting some new members again.

LOL nice name Fazooley, you don't seem that nosey though
and I believe the US spec C-class is governed at 135 mph, I've hit 130 before so I know its possible. Why would you even want to go that fast anyways? I felt like I was going to die at 115+

Why would you feel like you were going to die at 115? Other than the fact that it is illegal here and a lot of our roads aren't designed for it, 115 isn't that bad. You have to remember that these cars run 155 all day long on the autobahn... They can handle it with ease.

I had my old '08 C300 to 137 when it went limp. This was during an organized High-Speed drive. They restrict to 137 due to the H Rated Tires. I was told it was capable of 160+ with the properly rated tires. I had upgraded to Michelin Pilot Sport AS+ and was planning on the Kleeman Tune/limiter removal, but never got around to it.

Compared to my brother's 335i, yes, I felt extremely unstable at those speeds. The highway may have been a little uneven though, so I kept feeling like I'd hit a small hump and I'd get some air for half a second, and that's all it takes at those speeds to lose control and die. The suspension feels so springy and, for a lack of better word, flimsy. At lower speeds my C300 feels like a tank, but get up in speed and I don't feel as secure. Could have also been the crappy all weathers that come stock. I'm sure on a track like the Laguna Seca it would feel steady, but again, we're talking about the highway...a California highway.

California highway, isnt there a video of you on this highway?
Ok in all seriousness, going 80 mph on the highway (in ny); the car already feels unstable. Going bumps makes it even worse :,(. I don't think ive ever went over 100 mph tho on my c300. On the way from school at 4 am (studying for finals), i did go home going 120 mph for 30 mins straight in a sti tho. Too bad my sister sold it.

Hey I looked at his signature pic and thought the same thing!
I haven't had my '11 C300 above 85 or so but mine feels rock solid. And I cruised once at 125mph in an 05 C230K and it was like nothing. Not sure why others feel unstable

BTW, I drove a W204 on the Autobahn for a couple of hours at 120 miles (not kilometers) per hour, plus or minus......steady and stable throughout.

I agree with what others have posted. My vehicle (completely stock) is stable through 130mph. I have only reached speeds that fast a few times, but frequently cruise around 95-100mph with complete confidence.

My stock '11 C350 hit 142mph once. It was fairly stable, but I wouldn't have pushed it any farther. P-Zeros all around.
I was told that my C63AMG was limited to 153 without the AMG Dev pkg installed. That's funny as I've had it at 163 with room left to play. Very stable with Michelin Pilots.
I'm beginning to wonder if those "factory limits" are BS.

Agree the car needs inspection...could be any one or combination of tires worn or just not up to the task, strut deterioration over time. If the wheels were out of round, he would experience vibration. My aftermarket wheels and car are rock solid at speeds I won't document. Of course, I upgraded antisway bars, and installed Pilot Sport A/S Plus and strut tower brace, and mine feels absolutely stable and solid from standstill to.......

I try to keep my car in the best condition possible, mechanically or otherwise. Until very recently, I only took the car to my local authorized MB dealer for service and inspections whenever needed, I remember because the prices were ludicrous.
My father always told me that the three car things to never take lightly are: steering, brakes and tires. I have always made sure those three things were always taken care of. I would never do anything demanding on the vehicle if I knew my tires were nearing time to change.
I have been aggressively driving up and down highway 9/skyline recently and although I am VERY pleased with how well my car kept up with my friends modified mustang with a sports tuned engine and suspension ,
I did experience the instability I had felt before. My C300 feels unstable when hitting any bumps on the road while under demanding performance conditions. At very high speeds, and even at normal highway speeds, if any bumps are hit the car seems to jump/bounce up.
While tearing up highway 9/skyline, I would be taking a corner hard, and if I hit a bump the car would bounce/jump, tires would chirp and I would end up a couple inches oversteering, or at least thats what it feels like. My friend's mustang in front of me did not seem to experience the same instability with the bumps, I even asked him afterwards to confirm. The handling was exhilarating, but the bouncing/jumping was scary...
I like the ride comfort of my C class, but I feel a little uncomfortable and unconfident when pushing my vehicle on poor condition roads, such as California roads. The car has too much bounce in my opinion, and it really takes away from the grippy, planted, solid, on rails feel I want to get with my C300, but that I get with my brother's BMW 335i instead.
Btw I currently am riding on Continental DW fronts and DWS rears. Brother currently on Michelin PSS. The newer, higher performing tires could be why my car was able to keep up with the mustang on the corners.
On a separate note, when aggressively following my pal on the curves, my car seemed to learn when to stay in gear, and I had really good power bands on those corners when I needed it!

I've hit 135 (maybe 137) a couple of times on the NJ TPKE in my 2014 C300 - rock solid. I can confirm it will not go faster. I did not up the air pressure.

My car at the time was 100% stock, Mercedes Benz, German Engineering, all the way down to the OEM factory continental contiprocontact 3's.

No I didn't, this was many years ago, so I don't remember much of the details. I haven't hit over 100 since a few years ago so I don't even have any recent experience in terms of high speed.

The one thing that does feel a little concerning to me is the steering sensitivity. It feels super reactive the faster you go.

FYI...on Michelin PSS (or any other Y-rated tires), you can go up to 136 MPH on stock pressures.
