Transfer case leak - need help.

Here's a long story made short. about a week and a half ago i purcahsed a MB (not from a dealer) the TPMS light was on saying that it was malfunctioning, i took it to the dealer and they were covering it under the warranty that was going to expire on monday. The next appointment that they had was after the warranty expired and they were going to take care of the sensor replacement since i came in before hand, while i was there i was getting service A done.

While the mechanic was working on the car, he noticed that there was a oil leak off one of the vacuum hoses and one off of the transfer case. He brought me into the shop and showed me the leaks that he was reffering to. Obviously, i am ~8 days out of dealer warranty, and its costing about $1700 to take care of everything.

What should i do?

Can you buy an extended warranty from them? The cost of the warranty will probably be similar to the cost of repairs they quoted you, plus you'll be covered for another 1 or 2 years, I think.

i would be intrigued if the dealer allowed him to purchase an extended warranty, since he did not purchase the vehicle from a mercedes dealership.

I too, bought my car from a non-MB dealership, tried to buy CPO for it, but was unable to since the car was not purchased from Mercedes.

I'd love some clarification on that.

I didn't think W204s had separate transfer cases. I heard the transfer case was part of the 4Matic transmission.

Either way, $1700 sounds like a lot if they aren't replacing something. Since you are out of warranty....maybe check out a MB indy in your area?

i called mbusa to see if there is some sort of compensation and there reviwing the case and ill get a response by tommorw. Before the warranty expired they were allowing to get cpo warranty but it was crazy expensive 2100 for a year or additional 25k miles.

so the response from MB was NO! for the reason that i did not purchase the car from an authorized MB dealership and that i did not purchase the extended warranty.

the dealer quoted me 1088 for the transfer case leak
and 653 for vaccum pump replaced / changed.

A friend of mine that owns a BMW told me that if the leak is really minor like they say i can use a paste like jB weld or a high heat resistant epoxy to seal it up instead of changing the whole gasket.

what do you guys think?

do you know of any indie shop in nj?
