Service B2 -- 40k/4yr

Hey everyone-

I just got quoted ~$800 for this service from my local dealer. $425 for the standard B service and ~$360 for the transmission service required during this interval.

Is this too much? I was really, really surprised...

Sounds just about right. That's the price for a Merc.

That is too much. The B service at my local dealer is $299 and that is also too much for what amounts to an oil change and inspections. To add insult to injury, a lot of MBUSA dealers are using 229.51 oils in all the cars which is not the correct oil for your car. Also, the $360 transmission service is half-assed where they drain the pan and change less than half the fluid.

I suggest finding an indy Mercedes specialist place and going there. Get the fluid drained from both pan and TC and all of it replaced. Get the oil changed and use the correct 229.5 oils. And you can replace air filters, cabin filters and the like by yourself.

Save $$$

Really? Do you know which specific oil they use?

I thought most of them were using this:

And for diesel engines they use this:

Sad but true. It's a disgrace that MBUSA allows this to continue on, yet they have no problem charging you a fortune for a new trans when it conks out.

As for the prices, they are about on par with what my local dealers charge. Ripoff, no matter how you look at it.

I've seen a lot on this forum where dealers have just used the ESP formula in all the cars, which is not correct.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting totally duped; it seems the price is on-par for what most dealers charge for this service. I used to work on my own cars back in the day -- valve job, engine swaps, brakes a million times, etc., I just don't have the time anymore, so I must pay the Stealer!

My dealer is offering an interior/exterior detail & oil change special, and my SA was awesome enough to bundle my 40k service with this and get me the regular service plus the detail for the same price as just the service; great customer service. He'll be the reason I buy an E-class in a couple of years.
