I would venture a guess that the speaker that produces the warning tone will likely pull more power that the circuit that senses the Radar radio signal. A Radar detector is not transmitting any sort of signal or radio wave, and unlike the Radar gun that the cop is using, which would require quite a bit of energy in the form of electrical power (Wattage) to be converted into a radio wave, a Radar detector is only required to sense that incoming radio wave and to somehow signal the driver by way of an audio and visual signal...

If the Solo happened to be a Laser/Radar Jammer, which would then transmit a scrambled signal to confuse and throw the Speed measuring device reading out of whack, I would agree that a steady and stable power source other that 2 AA batteries would be required. otherwise, whoever wrote that should really stay out of the lab, stay away from cooking and keep waiting for the physics laws to get repealed...
IGB, thanks for explaining that much better than I possibly could.

As to Mike Valentine, quoted religiously by another sincere forum member here, we should all keep in mind that, since Valentine is a competitor, he might not be an exemplar of objectivity. I do concede that his product, while dated, is a good one. I used to own one. Gave it to one of my lead-footed sons.

Meanwhile, I like my Solo and rely on it. It has saved my butt several times.

My new Escort Sticky Cup arrived a couple of days ago, and it is now in service. It has a tenacious grip without any question. Also, my Passport detector does not seem to vibrate around like it did with the previous standard dual cup thing.

I'm not sure where the final location will be, but one thing I'm focused on is how visible it and the radar detector are outside the car, to a casual observer. Of course everything is visible to some extent, but I took a couple of pictures, unretouched straight from an iPhone 5, to share with you. See attached.

The location shown in the pictures is as high as I can get it, and still have unrestricted use of the sun visor.
