C250 cdi or c350 cdi?

Hi there.

I am considering buying a 2010 c250 / c350 Sport Estate to fit my expanding family in, I currently have a Golf and it is becoming a bit of a squeeze!

I am drawn towards the c250 as it seems a good balance of power/performance v economy. However.....a very nice c350 has become available at a very good price. The c250 has covered 48000 miles the c350 98000. The high mileage doesn't bother me but where I could really do with some advice is knowing what big maintenance can be expected at that mileage for those models (cambelt/chain etc.) this way I can check the service log to see if they have been completed or if I can expect a big garage bill! Also any traits/problems with either model.

Of course any other tips on buying a used c class, and opinions on which model to go for would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

Ben

Hello Ben,

The 250 CDI engine would be lighter & would therefore the car would turn into corners better.

The power & torque of the 250 is more than adequate & in my opinion the 350 is only needed if towing a van or pulling out tree stumps.

No doubt the 250 would give better fuel economy & has half the mileage of the 350.

The main thing is to make sure the service record is impeccable with no accidents.

I would contact the previous owners .

Good luck ,

John.
