2012+ Tail Lights on a 2010..?

Tons of talk on this and appears most, including myself, have gone to the replica lights. Has anyone figured out how to get the OEM 2012 Tails working on a 2010 yet...? I can't believe the technicians on here have been unsuccessful looking at some of the neat things they have figured out. Clearly this is a tougher one.

Thoughts?

They've already figured it out, do a search. It won't work without a decent amount of work.

I have done all the searches and tracked this for months. There has yet to be a defined solution. If you have found this, please forward the link. Thanks.

It has been done. The tail light part numbers are 204-820-21-64 and 204-820-22-64. They will plug right in and work though not fully. The rear fogs tend to be an issue. What needs to happen then is have the REAR SAM module reprogrammed for LED instead of incandescent lights. You will need the MB STAR diagnostic program and cable all in developer mode.

I believe the SAM reprogramming doesn't work on 2010 cars

Then the '1- is like mine '11. you either must reprogram your SAM in a 2012 car. or get a 2012 SAM and program it and add your VIN to it.

So, without the programming, are you only losing the rear fogs?

with out the programing the rear fog will be on all the time and maybe the brake light themselves slightly dimmed on. hard to be exact. depends on how the SAM is already programed.

If you've done the searches and as well as from the responses in this thread, it's a pretty definitive answer.

^ Thanks tips.

Anyways back to this convo. Cillys: Has anyone you know been taking 2010 SAM's and programming them for others that you are aware of? I was told by an MB dealer that if someone had Autologic they could program the lights to work with LED's. They said they cannot do this because they download the software from Toronto (I'm in Canada) and they cannot change the settings. This worries me a little for the following... Say I do have my rear SAM reprogrammed to work with 2012 lights. Then I go into the dealer for something and they refresh my software.. would that reprogram the SAM back to 2010 non-led settings?

I am a little unclear with the info that has been discussed on this if the SAM actually has to be put into a 2012 car or it can actually be accessed with a program like Autologic. Thoughts?

A.
