Not Original wheels and tires on ice
So, go to tirerack.com or similar, and get a package with some inexpensive Rial wheels or such (about $100 per wheel) which will be fine for the winter. Get four 215/50-17 Blizzak WS70 tires for the narrower footprint which will improve winter traction. They can make a package mounted, balanced, TPMS and shipped so you are just 20 lug nuts away from having them on.
The car will feel differently with the softer dedicated winter tire. Take it easy on dry roads so you don't burn through them too quickly. However, they will surprise you for the good when you see how they get you through snow and ice. Therefore, if you have really good all-season tires, try not to switch too soon in the season to preserve the Blizzaks. Expect about three to four winters of wear in typical use.
