MBWorld Fanatic!
I came into a set of blizzak lm-60's all 4 were 245/40-17, mounted them on the old stock rims and all seems to work well...

I hate the stock rims, I am looking at these, wondering if they would work.

It was a conscious decision as the WS series ride is rather mushy. It's the same tread pattern with a harder compound.
If you think about it, you want the tire to cut the snow, and push it through the tread to the outside (I am a life long BFG Mud terrains on my trucks) and I think in some conditions a harder compound may be better.
But who knows? The 5 storms we have a year here in Jersey I think it's a good compromise between the two.

Specifically, a set of four Michelin X-Ice Xi3, in 225/45-17. Had them mounted on the stock wheels. M-B dealer and Tire Rack confirmed this would be okay and so ordered from Tire Rack and had installed locally.
Will weigh in as I gain more experience behind the wheel with this combo.
