Humming/whine from front left wheel?
Hello, folks, I'm new to this forum but have spent some time on the W201 forum as a 1985 190E-8V owner. Needing greater piece of mind for long trips, I bought a 2009 C300 4MATIC. Looking forward to getting to know this car and the folks on the forum.
I've owned the new car for about 3 months, and I've recently noticed a quiet hum/whine that seems to be coming from the left front wheel area when the car is going steadily at about 40-60mph. The sound goes away during acceleration and braking. It's a sound I associate with the rear differentials of older RWD American cars. Any suggestions of what it might be? Wheel bearings? Also, any idea whether my CPO warranty will cover it, or will they call it normal wear and tear?
Many thanks for your thoughts.

Sounds like a wheel bearing issue as the same thing happened to a previous car I had. Almost sounds like a screetching sound like if metal is grinding against your rotor.
We took our vehicle to the dealership and it was repaired under warranty.

Could well be a wheel bearing....seems a logical possibility. Just to be thorough, I would try rotating the front left tire to another position (rear if not a staggered setup) to see if the sound does/does not follow the tire location.

I hear the noise as well, but I only hear it on the same stretches of road. I deduced that it was the crap stock tires. Still counting down the miles when it's time to swap them for a quieter set.

I've had the same problem too. Went to the dealer today and they told me I had 3 bent rims and 3 worn out tires. My car...2010 c300 sport. 35k. Bought as a cpo later to find out car was one of their loaners. Estimated repair cost of almost $3000. I call bull**** on this one. Might trade in for something else
