[advice needed] Additional warranty coverages - worth it?

So we finally got the C300 4matic 2012 CPO yesterday. And slapped on a bunch of additional warranty coverages worth $8500. All these extra coverages can be revoked at any time for refund (details below). We had no choice to opt later, since these could not be purchased once the car was out of the dealership (Fletcher Jones of Fremont, CA). The existing factory warranty and the CPO (1 yr) expires 2016. The car has about 21K miles on it, and next service will be service B (as per the dealership - I haven't looked into it yet). It has the sports and premium packages.

I want advice if these are necessary, or should we cancel them back.

(1) Extra warranty ($4000) - good until 2019, or 135,000. Fully refundable if cancelled before the expiry of the existing CPO warranty by 2016.

(2) Tires and rims ($2000) - Unlimited changes of damaged/flat tyres and rims good for 5 years from yesterday. We were told the sports edition of C300 has low profile tyres, and any punctures or damages cannot be patched, but would require a complete tyre change. Cancellable based on proration of time from purchase date.

(3) Prepaid 3 yrs service ($2500) - Covers 3 services at intervals of 1 year each/10K miles. Free pickup and drop from home, with replacement of a car included. Cancellable prorated based on time from the purchase date.

I would like to hear the forum opinion as well - since we have an option to cancel and get refund anytime. I will be glad to provide additional details, if required. Thanks in advance.

the tires can be patched...I would get rid of the tire protection for sure. In 5 years, normal driving condition you will have to change the tires 3? times at the most...well under 2000. Now if you are worried you are going to bend the rims (unlikely with stock 17s), multiple times...then that is a different story. Personally I would just keep the original CPO warranty, but that is just me. Im sure there are others with different opinions, but the w204 is a very solid car. some transmission issues but for the previous models. enjoy your purchase and goodluck with your decision!

2014 ML350 Bluetec,2012 C300 4matic sport
Just keep the original cop warranty. I bought out the lease on my 09 ML350 and did not purchase any type of warranty. Just ready to turn 70k and have not had any issues. I have faithfully done scheduled services and oil and filter every 5k. I just bought a 2012 C300 with 6k and has the full factory warranty until 2016. I take my cars to an independent MB shop and based on his advice and research I have done extended warranties are overpriced and you have to read the fine print very carefully.

Good luck with your new C class.

Im a new owner of a CPO C250 and the dealer tried to sell me the same coverages. Im also a high milage driver 35 -40 thousand a year so Im concerned with out of pocket expenses.

First the tire and wheel, my dealer offered it to me at $ 1800.00 and touted it as free tires and wheels for the life of the warranty. After checking into it i found that replacement rims can be found at about $ 250 a wheel or complete sets at $ 600 -900, a set of tires better than stock at $ 500 a set so for the cost of the warranty you can get 3 sets of tires and a rim or a set of aftermarket rims and tires and still save more than $ 500, also in the past 5 years Ive never had to replace a rim or had a blowout. so in my opinion the warranty is not worth the money.

The CPO is a great warranty and will take you to 100,000 miles and adds 1 year IMO this is well worth the $

The additional extended warranty (35,000) to 135,000 miles is only worth it if you are going to keep the car to that mileage. In my case I purchased it as Ill have over 100,000 miles in the next 3 years. The list price was $ 4000 but it was reduced to $ 3400 if got it with the car, remember the dealers have some room to move on the prices of these warranties.

The prepay maintenance IMO is also not a good value. The cost of service is the same or less paid as you need it. At my dealer the Service A is about $ 150 and the Service B is about $ 250 at the dealer , find a good independent and have the maintaince done at lot less than that and go to the dealer for warranty repairs.

So Id only get the extended to 135,000 and no pre pay maintaince or tire and wheel. You can save yourself at least $ 4500 by canceling the pre pay and the tire and wheel. Also talk to the Finance guy and get him to drop the fee for the extended they have room to move on it.

But that is me, basically these plans are insurance policies and if it makes you comfortable to have it do it.

I would say the only real thing you MIGHT need is the extended warranty. $4000 is expensive, but a new transmission is way more than that. Not to mention potential for EIS failures.

The tires and prepaid maintenance are things I probably wouldn't do. But you need to be happy and secure, so there ya go.

Congrats!
