Window Tint

I've read about 7 or 8 threads on the topic and have yet to find the information I'm looking for. I'm getting my '13 C250 tinted this weekend and I'm trying to decide between 20%, 35%, or something in between. The car is steel grey and has a black interior. I want it dark enough so that people can just barely see inside of it if they're staring. I've never had tints before, so idk what I need. Also, I'm not really worried about legality because I have a prescription and medical note from an eye doctor.

Just keep in mind driving at night can be difficult if you go too dark

If you want it dark enough that people can only see a shadow you need to go 20 or 15

If you want to not see anything unless you are up against the window go with limo

I do my cars all side at 30 and the rear At 15 and 30 on the side can allow you to stand outside and see through the car. From the back with 15 I ca barely see into the car

What state are you in because in calif a doctor order is not valid to allow dark tint

I'm in VA. And I'd like to keep all of the windows, rear, and windshield closely matched. I'm thinking 35 all around, but from what I've seen in my search 35 is pretty transparent.

Yeah, I am keeping that in mind. Especially since the rear view mirror has that auto dim feature that already makes it difficult to see at night.

35% is very transparent , you can easily see through a car wit 35% on it. In Ca using 35% will not usually cause any problems with LEO since they can easily see into the car.

If your intent is to block seeing into the car you need at least 15-20%

This is picture of mine with 35 on the sides and 15 rear. More pictures in my album

I have a steel grey c300 with black interior like you. I have 5% on the rear windows, 25% on the front windows and I think 50% on the front windshield. It looks really good. You cant see in the back but you can see in the front during the day. Backing out at night would be a pain but I have a rear camera.

Thanks guys. Those pictures really help! I think I'm going to go with the 20 on the rear, front and back windows, and 50 on the windshield. I have the rear view camera as well so that shouldn't be too big of a problem.

I've been thinking about it all day, observing tints throughout my commutes, and I think I'm gonna go 35 as well. I think it'll preserve the luxury look a bit more while offering some privacy.

Exactly, I don't want to go 5% because I already have an all black car with black wheels. It would be too "murdered out" for my taste. I'd like to make myself slightly visible, while keeping it classy haha.

Just an update, I went with 20% all around and I am absolutely satisfied. I know I was thinking of 35% but after seeing multiple tint levels IRL, I decided that 20% was more aggressive. I'll post pictures of it in shade and in light tomorrow.

I had 35% on my old car, and I loved it. Never got pulled over.

I just got a C250 today, and tints are top priority-- going to the shop day after tomorrow. I'm thinking about trying my luck with 25%. I'm in California, too. Are dark tints actually a thing cops are looking for? I mean, do you guys get f$%^ed with frequently? I am going for the murdered out look for sure, but I didn't know that was considered un-classy! Ha.

Also-- tinting the windshield is something I've never thought to do and rarely ever see. Not sure how I feel about it.

There are a lot of benefits with tinting the whole front windshield, (Less heat, keeps UV out, don't really need sunglasses when driving), but keep in mind it is extremely illegal no matter where you are in the U.S. Also, if you do ever want to get front windshield tint, I would recommend never going lower than 50%, otherwise you can not see at all at night.

Some good things about front windshield tint is it cannot be checked with the polices' tint meter. (as you know it can't be rolled down)

Wow, I am so sorry for not following up. Here is an album of whatever I could throw together: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2tin04crw3u5u0z/_nJqUs40pY

If you want anymore pictures in higher or lower light scenarios, let me know and this time I'll make sure to do it right.

I don't know if you made your decision on tint, but I just got 20% tint all the way around and Thursday of this week I am getting the front windshield tinted 50%. 50% is not dark at all, keeps the sun out of your eyes more, heat is tremendously less and lastly it makes the windows on the side look even darker. My brother had this exact same setup on a BMW 335i and it was great.

However, my tint place did not have 15% only 20% the darkest. (kind of strange) If I would do it over I would definitely get 15%.

Nice. I ended up going 18% all-around. My place uses Suntek, so my options were 25% or 18%. When I picked up my car, it was dark out and I sorta regretted my decision wishing I went with 25%. But after seeing the tints in the sunlight and driving around for a few days, I think 18% is absolutely perfect.

As for the front windshield, I don't think I'm gonna tint that. 50% would look nice, but I'm not sure I need another reason to be pulled over. We'll see.

Here are some pics of Suntek 18% in the dark and daylight:

Looks good. I have a black w204 also and you definitely need tint on the car. As for the front windshield, there is no way a cop can test to see if there is tint on the windshield.(since it obviously can't be rolled down)

In addition, my brother has his windshield tinted at 50% as stated above and he has never been pulled over.

Anyways, I want all of your opinions. Do you think really dark looks clean on a W204? Or more along the sides of cheap?
