Installing subwoofer and amplifier.

Hey guys,

I have a w204 2012 with audio 20. I want to improve quality to my audio, and i thinking to install a subwoofer with amplifier.
Is it possible and easy? Only put a subwoofer with my original speakers? ( i dont want to change my speakers.)

Thanks !!

RE:

I have installed a few systems in my vehicles over the years, and the best advice I can give you is do not do it your self, have a qualified person do it for you.

1. Find a reputable audio store in your area with experienced & certified installers, do some research. Ask questions such as how many years of experience their installers have, especially the one that will work on your car (you do not want a rookie that just dropped out of high school going near your investment with a soldering iron and a drill gun, and make sure that the shop is insured, see pic of what can happen). Ask them to let you talk to the installer to go over what YOU WANT the outcome of the project to be like. Most of the time the guy behind the counter will always try to push you into something you do not want or need. Many installers will be honest with you because they do not want you coming back so that they have to redo anything.

2. You get what you pay for, if you buy cheap components you will not be happy with the results.

As far as a adding just a sub, if you are happy with the front and rear sound stage then go for something simple so as to not over power the rest of the stereo. If you go too far it will not sound right, and you will not be happy with it. I would have the trunk Dynamatted (sound deadening material) first, then you could go with something like one 10" sub and just a small mono amp to power it. Always have them use good wiring, once again it will be worth it.

If you want to upgrade the whole system, you could go with something like a JL Audio Cleansweep or Audison processor to let you keep your factory head unit and add amps, secondary inputs (iPads, iPods, DVD's, games, what ever junk you feel like adding). For amps, separates, and subs I only use JL Audio (once again you get what you pay for, these are built with only the best components and are they are built to last).

Personally I have a 2011 C300 I use for work with a Pioneer Avic-Z150BH (double din GPS Navi head unit), Metra 95-8717 install kit (molded to look like it came with the car, then I had it dyed to match the interior), Scosche MZ01SR wiring harness (so not to cut the factory radio plug), 2 sets of JL Audio ZR650-CSI separates for the front and rear, a JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5 13" Sub in a fiberglass box molded into the side of the trunk (covered in the same trunk liner, firing into the wall with almost no loss of space), and it is all powered by one JL Audio HD900/5 amp (5 channel amp that is only 10 3/4" wide X 8.3" long X 2" tall so it can be hidden anywhere) plus I replaced the battery with a gel cell battery, and the best thing is the system is completely hidden. I put some links for you to check out. Just whatever you do, don't destroy your car with a bunch of junk.

If I remember correctly, there are a few threads and even a DIY or two about this already, try searching the forums, or even google. I tried looking into it a little while ago, and what I remember is that all you really need is an amp, a high - low converter and your subwoofer. It is possible, and not very difficult relative to other mods.

Here is a link from a 2 second google search, it was the first entry to come up: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...r-install.html
