Buying Advice - c250 cdi versus c350 cdi

Hi Guys!

New to this forum, and have looked around for some time to find stickies and notes regarding this but couldnt find much specific. Was hoping some people here could help me out!

Looking in Australia, and buying a c250cdi or a c350cdi. For my price range however, the c350cdi would need to be used, but still looking at something as a 2011 or 2012 model. the c250cdi would be able to be brand new.

Are there any issues across the model range to look out for? Someone told me to avoid sunroofs on Mercedes? has anyone had any dramas with them? How is the command system, and is it worthwhile to go with the logic 7? Can you bluetooth stream audio from your phone?

The c250cdi is what i am leaning towards, however am concerned at a lack of power? I currently drive a bmw z4, and amongst other reasons needing to upgrade for more space and a better image (I'm in sales and need to ferry clients around), power has been a long standing concern to me. The other alternative was to look at a 2008 c63 - as they have come down in value to what is in my price range by this age, but would welcome any feedback on the major differences between the 2008 versus 2011/12/13 range of c classes.

Thanks in advance!

Adam

Adam,

Take the time to test drive both the diesels as many times as it takes to decide.

You will be surprised at the performance, power & massive torque of the 250CDI . The C 350 CDI is a lot heavier in the front end & unless you are going to haul B Doubles interstate or pull out tree stumps on the farm the 4 cylinder will do the job with aplomb.

If you decide on buying new then there is 3 years to sort out any problems. I did not have anything major in my 6 years of owning a C220.

Sun roofs are always liable to be a trouble as they upset the whole integrity of the roof.

I do think you are buying the wrong car for "ferrying clients" as the back seat room is only for kids or adults on short trips. An E class is the answer or the last of the Commodores!!

I can give you some feedback on the sunroof. I've been using the C-Class since I bought it in 2007, brand new, sunroof included. No troubles, works like magic, the view from the back is great, love to open it in front when it's hot.

I drive a 220CDI, heard great stuff about the performance of the 250CDI, my MB service guy though - who I trust a lot, he's really into MB - he thinks those engines aren't even close to be as reliable as the old 220 or 320 CDI.

Besides the design the major difference in the Comand system - which I think is really good - is that in the older cars you can't stream music via bluetooth. They just don't have A2DP module. You have to do some digging on when this feature was introduced, I believe it was at the same time as the facelift and the new Comand.

Me personally, I would go for the new car, even though I would preffer the 320. You get the warranty and you don't care about anything until you have it and the performance difference won't be that big. As Carsy said, tha 320 is significantly heavier in the front.

Let us know what you've decided!

thanks guys! appreciate the replies. I took a c250cdi for a test drive today and compared it to the single turbo petrol c250. i think i prefer the c250 cdi. this particular one had a amg pack on it, with vision pack also. I was interested to see how many people have had any success with chips like this;
