Gearbox problem
I just got my 2013 c180 with an automatic gearbox which should has 7 gears but when i drive on tiptronic it only shows d1 d2 d3 d4 d5 d6 and then d!!!!!!
Where is the 7th shift , or is that normal

7 gears is include 1 reverse gear. Its normal. So the answer to your question where is the 7th shift? Its the reverse gear

Sorry, i explain the wrong way.

Your car is normal. If your using D, it will be like you said (D1-D6). But if you use M mode, then it will display 1-7 gears.
I try mine to (c250 coupe 7G tronic) and it the same like you did.
So 7G-tronic is 7speed + 1 reverse gear.

Hope this will answer the right way

Should i be over some speed to let the 7th gear work, i am really confused as my car is totally new (3000 miles)

There is nothing wrong with your car. When you're in "D", the trans uses all 7 gears. When you're in D6, the trans uses only gears 1-6. When you're in D5, the trans uses only gears 1-5, and so on.

It's all explained in the owner's manual. Read through it.

There is nothing wrong with your car. Your car is normal, same as mine.
If you want to use 7th gear, you have to switch to M mode. The button is near the shiftknob. You can change it to D, S n M. When you switch to M mode, the cluster will change. And display 1-7. Then you can use the 1st till 7th gear.
Why you want to use 7th gear? Cause using 7th gear you have to speed your car.

I live in egypt, the button can only switch between e and s ,to drive manually i have to move the stick to the left to shift down a gear u know + and -

Most C-class cars don't have an "M" mode. Doesn't that only come with the AMG package?

So, in simple terms:

D = allow the trans to use gears 1-7
D6 = allow the trans to use gears 1-6 only
D5 = allow the trans to use gears 1-5 only
D4 = allow the trans to use gears 1-4 only
D3 = allow the trans to use gears 1-3 only
D2 = allow the trans to use gears 1-2 only
D1 = allow the trans to use gear 1 only

I will never see D7 on manual mode

Right, this is normal, previous models where displaying D7 for full auto, now it displays D, cosmetic change...

If you're not sure if you really have 7 gears, press the pedal to the metal and count gear changes

PS : the 7g tronic has 2 reverse gears, believe it or not : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercede...c_transmission

Hmm, im not sure. But my father car C300 avantgarde 2012 year have "M" mode. And it does not AMG package.
