Custom wheel from Ledermanz (ebay seller) with SL airbag on my 2009 C63. I've made sure that the backing plate is NOT being pressed down. The three bolts are practically loose at this point.
Here's a question. Can the two yellow wires be touching each other? If they do touch, would that cause the horn to honk?
Edit: did some testing and even with the bolts barely tight (like finger loose) and the airbag not clipped in place, the car honks immediately so I know it has be something with the wiring. If the wires are removed all together from the square, there's no honking. Any thoughts?

Sorry AMG3.2, I appear to be wrong. I would just double check everything is fastened down correctly. You should check to see if the back plating freely moves before installing.
I finally got the parts to do the conversion with great success!

On another note, got the constant honking fixed. For those in the future, if the two yellow wires touch each other, the horn will honk constantly. Rather than insert two wires into the square bracket with 4 holes, I popped off the square piece and soldered the two yellow wires to the two pins. Again, make sure they do not touch each other.

Hi JohnnyC,
So you have changed the button with circuit board and control board in the steering wheel ?
Where did you find the circuit ?
Any specific part number is needed ?

The steering wheel w/Airbag is around USD600, it is still on eBay
Some cost $800-1000~
Checked that is 2014-2018 CLA45 steering wheel,
original new price is USD1700~2200
I'm surprise that there is a way to make it works on a pre facelift C class.
The column combo switch around $200, but in limited stock,
I can't find it now...
But you can buy the new one from parts store,
Which is around $350.
So total around one grand, a bit expensive.

For those who interested in such steering wheel upgrade,
there are something need to do.
I saw some similar steering wheels in online store, but look closer the Brown plug are different, 3 pins, 5 pins !?
control buttons are different, 4 arrows, 2 arrows with home.
* This time I pick 3 pins with 4 arrows.
For steering column, that is from W204 facelift, can't confirm car model and year, buyer said 2012-15
It has memory, power level and cruise control, that fit my original functionality.
Some other model's facelift column paired with 5 pins steering wheel, maybe work with other steering wheel with 5 pins
In the sense that those Face lifted W204 can direct plug'n play such steering wheels.
I haven't tested, just guessing.
To avoid angle sensor cause ESP error, you may need ODB2 diagnose tools.
You don't need C4, but at least something it can read SCM angle sensor live stream. (Steering Column Module)
Mine has turned over 360º.
it is easy to correct by turning angle sensor back to around 0º.
Actually the angle senor will lock itself from free turn when steering wheel removed,
not sure why the angle reading was going wrong.
I haven't unplug car battery, because I need to test and try on error in every parts.
Hopefully it works !
And also it is easy to erase SRS error code after replaced air-bag.
Enjoy DIY.
And thank you everyone here shared your experience.
ps. everything here just based on my own test, it may different from your case, not responsible to any lost.

Defenetly not GLC..That is very wrong. That is the W205 wheel with wrong buttons. I tol this many times. ANY 2016 wheel with ARROW buttons work. ANY. Its the column that is the key for all to work.. I can hook you up with corect parts for less.

Another interesting finding…
The steering wheel actually from CLA, and the column is from facelift C class.
I've done a test drive, all buttons, wiper, power level, cruise control, paddles are working properly,
No error codes, no ESP error at all !
Used the diagnose tool, pick W204,
but can't read cruise control and paddles reading.
If pick CLA, readings are correct.
btw, all functions are working in car.

I just swapped my column for a w212 fl one, and a new steering wheel. I bought this from Chris. I followed all the steps, but nothing works. No buttons or horn, I have airbag error.
On the column only cruise control and indicators work. No high beam, no wipers or wash.
What could be the problem? Car is a 2008 w204 with 4 spoke factory wheel.

Update: On the column, everything except the wipers and washer works
On the steering wheel nothing works at all. Plus I got the left airbag error. I had the battery disconnected for 40 min before doing anything.

Okay so the wipers not working was just me being stupid, the bonnet needs to be closed for them to work..
So only steering wheel buttons and horn not working.
Sorry for spamming, I really want help 🙄
