Is keyfob programing possible?

One of my key-fob a crapped out this past week. Replaced batteries and at least the red light comes on when pressing one of the buttons. When inserted in the ignition it says that the key does not belong to this vehicle. Called Benzel Busch MB NJ and they claim that there is no way to program and that I must buy a new one.
Called MB of Brooklyn and they say to bring it in, that they can program it for $138 instead of $304 for a new one.

Can keyfobs be programmed or not.

KEYFOBS can be programmed, atleast based on what I've read throughout the forums. Try another local dealer around.

Of course they can be programmed. Try a Google search "Mercedes key fob programming" or "MB key tool "FMI.

Can you believe that the service department at Benzel Busch Englewood NJ claim and swear that the keys can not be programed and that I must buy a new one for $303.45.

Scumbags.

As far as I know, NOBODY can reprogram the used key (it means that the key belong to another car, to make it work on your car). The smart key is VIN # dependent, it come from MB warehouse somewhere in Texas. I paid more than $320.00 for my spare key in SoCal. (including the metal door & trunk key). The keypad itself is over $290 + $32 for the metal key. Keep us update if you can find someone RE-PROGRAM your key (I do not trust the Chinese version copy cat key).

Programmed is one thing... RE-Programmed is another. Once a key is programmed, it cannot be "reprogrammed". The chip is not an (E)EPROM.

Here is where it gets interesting. The key belongs to my car. Had it for over a year. Just stopped working so if push comes to shove, the key became defective but it does belongs to my car.

So far my only warranty claim has been a faulty key. It would only open the trunk on every third attempt or so. The warranty claim paperwork at the dealer showed around $500.

there are claims that they can be. but (fortunately, in my opinion) proof of their success
hasn't been easily determined. i see claims from China, Mexico and Poland
