ESP Problem

ESP fault get flagged on the dashboard and the power steering, ABS and air pressure gauge all get disengaged.

One service centre says the ESP control unit requires to be changed while the other says it does not need to be changed.

The latter says this because they are able to use the scan and deleted the "stored" fault from the system and the car works well.

Could I know what is normal in this case? And Do I really need to change the ESP?

Thanks

First thing - replace your battery. See if it re-occurs after that.

That's the lowest cost, simplest first thing to try, especially if the battery is 3+ years old. No guarantee of course.

Also, when I use the indicator to turn, the left one goes to the right side and vice versa. The head lights dont flash when I am on the dip. These don't happen all the time but infrequently. I therefore thought that there was something seriously wrong with electrical system. All these may be related to the battery life nearing its end...and not to the EPS unit per se.

Hi NYCA, Having changed the battery, which deserved to be changed-almost 5 years old- the ESP problem emerged again. But this time, it was for a short time, and it was soon undone when I restarted the car unplugging the key from the keyhole. Do you think there is still a problem? Thanks for your advice.

Last week I took my car in to MB for B service and when the tech test drove the car the ESP came on and was noted in my ticket. MB said that the front tires need to be changed, have you check your tires. The tech told me that the system senses the wear of the tire and will give the warning, but then it will reset and take the tire wear into consideration. Check the tires, because I purchased the car certified only the rear tires were changed due to them being worn, the fronts had some meat left. But the 10K that I have put on the car must have made the difference the car has 37K now and considering the tires are staggered and you can't rotate them left to right 37K to 40K is about right for these tires.
