brake lights stuck on
W204 - just had to have the EIS replaced as it died - don't think this was the case before, but the brake lights are now always stuck on when the ignition is turned on. Borrowed a Delphi diagnostic - Rear SAM operating well, but it believes the brake pedal is always pressed (it isn't). If I disconnect the brake switch, it throws a diagnostic error in the ESP module, but the brake pedal is reported as pressing and releasing by the Rear SAM and the brake lights operate properly (reading the brake pressure sensors through the ESP, I guess) - so the SAM and lights are working fine, as is the CANbus control.
I've replaced the brake switch and it makes no difference. I'm wondering if the firmware in the ESP unit has got hosed - either by whatever took out the EIS, or in the firmware/configuration reload? This was done by MB.
Sadly, MB main dealer has no clue and wants to charge lots for randomly replacing parts.
Anyone ever seen anything like this? Any clues? (BTW - not the rear lamp clusters or wiring fault - they are fine)
