I remember the first time I got burned...
So this 350z pulled next to me while I was driving this evening...asian guy with his girlfriend in the car, 8000k HIDs, etc. nice looking car to be honest I have no reason to rag on him too much. So he started speeding up trying to test the waters with me (haha he actually got caught up at the next red light so he did look a little stupid.) Anyways as pull up to the red light next to him, listening to Frank Sinatra on XM radio, and minding my own business of course. I look over, his windows down jamming to loud music...At that moment...it hit me. My hand just itching to switch into S mode. And then it happened. *click*... Sport mode activated. Light turned green. Gunned it. I thought this guy was clearly going to pass me up but I smoked this guy up to about 110. (in my head screaming all these cuss words like a college kid winning a drinking contest) Yeah it happened. The Z ended up turning at one of the next lights as I started slowing down. (I guess I would be a little embarrassed too, especially with my girl in the car.) Anyways I just wanted to share a quick story with y'all that made my night.
Can I get a hallelujah? W204 power all the way.

Keep in mind the 350z came out in 2002...but good job, I think the non amg W204's will take a win wherever they can get it. I wish I had a C350, I'd tune it for 300 bhp and install some coilovers so that it could compete with the 3 series.

Two reasons I know this story is BS:
1. You said you put it in S mode (as if this actually does anything for the performance of the car)
2. You said you beat a 350Z
These cars seem mildly quick (by standards of your average car) until you actually line up with someone else. I've been left quite disappointed with my C350's performance lately on two occassions. The first (which I've mentioned in another post on here before) happened on the Autobahn a few weeks ago with a Porsche GT3. No surprise that he handed my *** to me, and I wasn't seriously racing him (though I was flooring it all the way up to about 130mph). We were coming out of a tunnel where it is restricted 80kph (about 50mph). We were both going right around 51-52 mph. Soon after the tunnel ends it goes to an unrestricted zone. We both hit the unrestricted zone side by side, he dropped to about 2nd gear I'm guessing, rev matched, then floored it. I floored it in about 3rd gear at the same time. By the time he was going about 140mph I was going 100 and was about 1/4 mile behind him. Embarassing. Again, I didn't expect to beat him. I didn't even expect to hang with him. But the rate at which he pulled away from me just made me realize how much I miss my M3. If I still had it, I still would've gotten beat pretty bad, but atleast I would not have been left feeling like I downgraded when I sold it and bought the C Class.
2nd time was just yesterday, same section of road, same area. I came out of the tunnel and a newer (about 2007?) VW GTI was behind me maybe 5 or 6 car lengths. I waited till I got to the unrestricted sign to go, but he floored it soon after he left the tunnel. As soon as he went, so did I, and he passed me, and kept pulling from me until we both got to around 120mph, then we both kind of stayed at that speed. Either way, I couldn't catch him, and he steadily pulled from me despite starting out behind me. Despite being turbo'd, this car is a little more comparable to mine, and yet I still lost badly.
These cars really are quite slow. And before someone says "then sell it and buy a new one" I would love to. I'd trade in my car for a C63 or even an E63 tomorrow. But it's not on the table right now. (I'm married, I'm sure some of you know how that is). Besides, I love my C350, but they lack in performance. I wouldn't brag about winning a race in these cars. People won't believe it, and even if they do, it's not made to be fast, so who cares?

I had to check the URL of the site I was on... I thought I stumbled onto some Honda forum.
Street racing? Take it to the track... 110 on a road with stoplights? That's gotta be one of the most stupid things I have read on this board in a very long time.

First off...yes, we all know S mode does absolutely NOTHING besides let the car rev to full RPMs...even though I believe if you floor it in general it seems like it revs to a full rpm into the next gear in C or S.
Second, this was not by all means NOT an official street race, I understand your theory and hey it's great, but it was a just a little fun at street light for heaven sake. Just stepped on it to have bit of fun. In my post I said I was surprised I kept up with the Z. I don't think he took off at the light like I did.Who knows? Good chance he could have slowed down, mentioned to you that he turned at one of the next lights (perhaps he actually needed to turn.) also take note this was a public road not a race track, there were still a few cars on road I clearly saw him weave in and out of. They're many factors.
Third, a car like that, much lighter, a coupe, and stock already have almost 290 horse power. Yes it IS faster. I may have made it sound like our "stock" c350's are faster than a Pagani. But you're right, are cars are slower than most and not build for speed and performance. By all means not trying to start a debate, it was just a red light.

I'm not going to crucify you for drag racing in the street, but I do question the intent and state of the other driver.
Perhaps the other driver had no clue you were going to gun it and wasn't even prepared.
Perhaps the other driver was using a manual transmission and mis-shifted in pressure.
Congrats on the win, however if all things were equal, I'd go for the 350z every time.
Not sure on the exact numbers...but...
Nissan's 35HR beats both M272 & M276
M276 might be equal to the 35DE.
You have the M272...that's why my comments above.
And for those that don't know..."S" mode means you start in 1st instead of 2nd (when idle). I'm not sure if it kicks down on first even on non "S" mode if you floor it from a stop (but I'm guessing it does, it just lags since it has to switch to it).

Go watch a loved one get picked up by a shovel after some asshat hits them at twice the posted speed limit.
Why angry? ^^ I've been there ^^
The roads are not your personal playground.

As an ex dumb *** myself, please don't drag race on a public road. I lived in Dallas 15 years back and one of my friend was killed because he crashed his Supra to a light pole while drag race. There are so many great strips in Dallas that you can run.
Btw, no offense but C350 is a dog. My FD3S ran mid 11's 1/4 and mid 4's from 0-60 and many of my friends ran similar numbers. That was "15 years ago" in Dallas. Nothing really cool about your story except you put everyone including bystanders in danger.
