check around your area for an Indy shop that works only on Benz; and next time when shopping for a car: price out future maintenance and parts and include that in the budget

Man, all this holier than thou talk lecturing about making smart money decisions is kinda annoying. We drive a Benz, not a Ferrari. $1,500 for "yearly" service is a bit ridiculous. Yea, its a luxury car, but no need to act like owners should make $250k a year and have thousands of dollars lying around that will have no impact on budgets.
first, a c-class is not a luxury car. But, unfortunately for its owners, you still have to pay Mercedes parts and dealer prices.
secondly, $1,500 for a 40k services is not outrageous for a dealer.
Thirdly, as a wise shopper, you look into the cost of service before purchasing the vehicle. who wants this kind of surprise afterwards.
Fourthly, if $1,500 is really having a material impact on one's ability to spend money while on vacation, perhaps they spent too much on the car or haven't budgeted properly.
God forbid something breaks out of warranty...$3k later, is the OP not gonna be able to eat or pay rent?

Best thing to do honestly is to get the prepaid maintenance. You save some money in the long run and it only adds like 20-30 bucks onto your monthly.

$1,500 is outrageous when an independent Mercedes technician will do the 40k service for $600 where I'm from. It just tells you that dealers relay more overhead costs to the customer because the guys charging $600 are still making money and staying in business somehow, right?
If you're coming from BMW, $1,500 would probably seem ridiculous (like it did to me) because they cover your service up to 4 yrs/ 50k miles. If $1,500 is chump change to you, you must be a really rich guy driving the wrong car buddy.
I don't know how I feel about OP's situation but he's just asking whether or not he got fairly quoted. Let's keep the replies simple! No need to criticize his budgeting.

?? I wasn't making any judgements. I was simply making an observation/asking a question. If $1,500 for the big 40k service or $999 for maintenance package is going to wreck your life, to the point you might delay it, you're in trouble.
Even $2k now is way better than a new transmission for $7k in a year because you didn't get it properly serviced/serviced on time. MB requires meticulous maintenance. At 100 mph on the autobahn you will appreciate how most German cars (notoriously sensitive to on-time maintenance) really are superior in some ways to the other cars.
I'm just saying...put things in perspective, that's all.

You have to realize for some of the people on here, they think a C-class gives them the right to be pretentious. "If you drive an entry level Mercedes, $1,500 should be pocket change for you!" I just picked up the CLS and still complain about the $300 maintenance service that's coming lol...maybe I'm too poor to be driving a Mercedes too

My dad drives a Bentley and still complains about the 700$ maintenance oil change. atleast I got him to pay for my w204. Gotta pay for my own maintenance :'(

If paying $1500 for a service cuts into the vacation budget then you bought the wrong car. With that being said $1500 is a tad too much but I'm sure they're using that as a tactic to get you to buy the package which is what you should have done in the first place as it does make financial sense and can be considered future-proofing. As an alternative a good indy with an understanding of German cars can service the car for less and it won't void the warranty on your car. Don't hold back on servicing the car as that could cost you far more in the future.
As for people complaining these cars have the same costs to service as an E or ML Class of course it will costs roughly the same as the powertrains are identical.

I would do it in parts if you can't pay the whole thing at once. Tranny service and oil change first ~$750 then the rest??? $1500 is way too much for me too but i knew maintenance was gonna be pricey when I was buying the car. Unfortunately, i don't know/trust a local shop to do this job so I'm gonna have to suck it and pay lol ughhh next year is gonna suck :/
